Title: R.J.Scott -Artist
Post by: MEW53 on Thursday 05 December 19 19:03 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know anything about R.J.Scott who was an artist, he was from the Killeshandra area.
My parents knew him and he painted several pictures for them.
I’d love to know if anyone knows anything about Robert Scott, I’m not sure if he moved to Norfolk.
When I googled him some paintings came up with an identical signature on the bottom right hand side of the pictures which were of Norfolk views.

Thanks for your help.

I meant to post on the Cavan page but put it on Carlow accidentally.
He may we’ll have been from Leitrim, I know Carrigallen is very close to Killeshandra.

Roberts work was very good, I must get the pictures framed that I’ve collected from a clear out from the family home. I’m pretty sure I met him a couple of times as a child on holidays to Ireland.

I’ve asked the post to be moved to the Cavan board.

There are some articles about him in the 1970s

In 1970 he was aged 37 implies bc 1933

He had been a schoolmaster and after a bad elbow injury playing rubgy he started to paint more

Hie was married to a lady who was described as a civil servant / teacher

He also had a sister Mrs Joy Steele (as at 1971) who ran a shop in Streatley as he exhibited in the Village

Family search birth index looks good

A possibility for sister too but may still be living as the birth is much later.

Well done Dathai on finding this amazing information, you must be good at digging around.
The bird pictures he painted on the link look good, one of the ones I have has some peacocks.
Robert sounds like a very intelligent man.

I’m now going to try and contact the family, I think I may have found an old telephone book that belonged to my late mother which is very old.

Thanks again😀

Well done dathai

Your article find ties in with the death record in 1967 as the name of his sister in the article is the name of the informant on the record.
Also the second sister named is named in the death notice from 2016.

Yes. Recently stayed in Ballinamore and spoke with his neice who runs a B&B with numerous pieces of his work. I goggled his name and discovered this blogged. He moved back from Norfolk to Ballinamore and stayed with his family and in his final years lived in a nursing home in Leitrim

I just picked up one of his works at an auction. Boats in a marsh. Oil on board. Sadly there is a crack but it still cleaned up nicely.

Interesting to learn about his life here.
