I came across this child in 1871 census
Staying at the Mill House Treforth parish of Betwas with Robert and * Ellen Davies and their children aged 14 .4 and 1
First time I've seen "stranger" in the relation column
She was a nursed child. Born Merionethshire Corwen.
I wonder who she was related to and what became of her.

Robert the miller died in 1786 his eldest son became a blacksmith and Robert,s widow Ellen. was a charwoman in 1881
I don't know who took over the Mill House.
This family is not directly related to me but I followed them when looking for connections to my Jones great grandfather who was taken in ( by relatives )for much of his life .
I know children are hard to find on censuses if separated from their family.
Hopefully this will be useful to someone who has lost a Mary Ellen (Ellin)JONES b ABT 1865

FreeREG has Corwen Baptisms, but no Mary Ellen/Ellin c 1865
There is a MARGARET ELLEN Jones Bapt 03 Jul 1864, St Mael and St Sulien, Corwen
Mother WINIFRED Jones
Abode Union House
Maybe her?
Trish :)

Sorry maybe not her in 1871 there is a Margaret E Jones age 6 in the Corwen Workhouse
-
If the mother died I wonder if a father was paying for her upkeep.
With a surname of Jones it would be hard to search for her.
Good find Trish even if not the.correct one .
A nursed child is an expression I expect to see for babies rather than children

Brig I have a 12 year old nurse child in my family.
-
That's interesting a l
My grandma was listed as bozrder as a baby 1901 and as " adopted "in 1911 tho adoption wasn't formal then.it was same family
Nowadays looked after child seems to be used in preference to foster child but I don't know what a census title would be .
I wonder if terms varied from region to region .
-
Did the nursed child 12 stay with that family for several years. .
I fostered in the 1980's a child stayed with 6 different families between 1982- 1991 .

Brig I think my 12 year old was an illeg child from that family as there is a year difference between her and rel.of the same name.
However, I haven't checked any more info as yet.
