I am researching John Ryan and Mary Bonar Ryan who lived in theBlocks in Fallin. John died in 1923, Mary in 1930. The eldest daughter Eleanor Ryan took on several of the family children as was the norm in those days. I believe she also was a Justice of the Peace in the 1960#? The only memory I have of her was that she lived next door to an ice cream seller. She died in England as she went to live with her daughter there, maybe 1970s? Does anyone have any info or recollection of Eleanor or her family? Thank you, Kathy

Was Boyd her married name? Whereabouts in England?
There is a death in 1987 Whitehaven Cumbria but it’s just Eleanor Boyd b 22.4.1899
-
Are you sure the details you have given are correct?
No birth on SP in Stirling 1898 - 1900 No birth in Stirling for an Eleanor Ryan at all. One in Cumbernauld in 1899
Nearest 1901 entry is a 1yr old Helen Ryan b Coatbridge - parents John & Mary
No deaths in 1923 or 1930 in Stirling so where did the parents die?
No death in 1923 for a John Ryan in any Scottish county
3 deaths in 1930 for a Mary Ryan all in Lanarkshire - ages 32 and 39 - neither of whom were old enough to have a child in 1899 and a 74yr old who would have been beyond child bearing age by around 1906 so would not have had any young children to be looked after

Eleanor Ryan married Thomas Fowler 1926
She married David Boyd in 1940
Both marriages in St Ninians Stirling
-
Deaths...
RYAN MARY 53 - 1931 - 488/1 52 St Ninians (matching ref. surname Bonner)
Only close death is...
RYAN JOSEPH 37 - 1923 - 490/ 197 Stirling
An age gap between those?
Annie
Add...You need the marriages Carole found to confirm father's name

James Ryan death 1923 Stirling aged 54

Her name was Eleanor Ryan, born 1900 in Rutherglen, she married .... Fowler, and the ... Boyd. She lived with her parents James and Mary Ryan in a number of coal sinking places, settling in Fallin, Stirling.

The Eleanor Boyd in Cumbria is the correct Eleanor. Thank you!
-
The marriage dates to Fowler 1926 and Boyd are those I am looking for. Thank you!

Er .... don't confuse Cumbernauld (a historic parish in Dunbartonshire, Scotland) with Cumbria (a 20th century local authority area corresponding to the historic county of Cumberland, England).

Think Cumbria may be a reference to the death I mentioned in my first reply

Hi everyone, so great to get new information. My dates were a bit out but you have tidied that up for me. I don’t know of a Joseph Ryan that needs to be gone into. From my understanding Mary Ryan was pregnant when husband John died in 1923, maybe this is the child. Thank you!

Carole Cumbria is where Eleanor died, her youngest child Edith lived there, don’t know the reason why yet.

Ah, right. Apologies.

The above Joseph who I found looking for John (which was incorrect) died in 1923 i.e. not the son of James (who was correct).

Hi Fergie I am looking into Eleanor Ryan Fowler Boyd, she was my great aunt. The photos you have posted were her parents, James working in Polmaise till about 1920 till he was ill and couldn’t work on the coal face anymore.
I was wondering if anyone had information on Eleanor’s life. I believe she went to the USA at some point in her life.
-
A friend of ours was married to Eleanor Ryan's grandson.
She says I can pass on her email address to you if you wish. I'm sure she could tell you a lot about the family.

Hi Kathy
Mary was pregnant with my maternal Grandmother Margaret Ryan, Eleanor's youngest Sister, when John Died in 1923. I know very little about my Grandmother's side of the family but I have fond memories of spending childhood holiday's with Eleanor, her daughter Edith, Edith's husband Keith & their Daughter's (Eleanor's Granddaughters) Karen & Eleanor during the 1970's

I forgot to mention, this was at the farm they lived at near Whitehaven in Cumbria, I have also realised from viewing previous posts, that it was James & not John as I previously said.
