Title: Nailer or Naylor, millers of Bray
Post by: Blue70 on Thursday 09 January 20 16:27 GMT (UK)
Any information available anywhere on this C of I family from Bray? I have an ancestor born in Wicklow c1798 called Robert Naylor, no baptism found, a shoe maker. A second marriage in Liverpool reveals that his father was Daniel Naylor, a miller. The name Daniel recurs in this family so I'm confident this line is right. Irish Provincial Directory of 1788, by Richard Lucas has the following for Bray: John Nailer, Corn Dealer and Miller ... Daniel Nailer, Corn Dealer and Miller ...

Thanks there was a Susannah Naylor baptised on 4 Aug 1782 to Daniel and Martha Naylor there in Delgany she could be a part of this family.

I noticed an abode for a Mary Nailer b1711 of Mullin-Raimond, a Bartholomew Nailor b1791 to Daniel and Hannah Nailor of Mullin Raymond and a Daniel Nailor b1794 to Daniel and Hannah Nailor of Mullenraymond.

The 1788 directory says, "Daniel Nailer, Corn Dealer and Miller, Mullin Ramson" so maybe Mullin Ramson is a place of abode.

Firstly you are well before Civil Reg started

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/what-civil-records-are-on-line

Births:1864 to 1919

Marriages: 1845* to 1944

Deaths: 1864 to 1969

*non-Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1845, Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1864

Civil REg Birth, Marriage and Death results for Na*lor from ? to 1880
Area - Rathdown

LINK   http://www.rootschat.com/links/01otb/  BUT early Deaths have  Returns Page No so do not have Images at moment!

e.g.
Death of MARY NAYLOR in 1864
Group Registration ID   N/R
SR District/Reg Area   Rathdown
Deceased Age at Death   72
Returns Year   1864

Death of ELIZABETH NAILOR in 1872
Group Registration ID   N/R
SR District/Reg Area   Rathdown
Deceased Age at Death   74
Returns Year   1872

which can be ordered at €4.00 each for photocopy.

I only searched to 1880 but if you want later ones just adjust Search criteria.

1901 census doesn't give clues as to Mullenraymond......

Thanks my ancestor Robert Naylor left County Wicklow at an early date, married in Dublin in 1817, was in Liverpool by 1821 so I'm thinking he was a younger son and moved away because prospects were limited. I get the impression a lot of these Naylors moved away considering how few there are in Wicklow in 1901. Maybe someone out there will know of a Naylor's Mill or something similar. I read about a Naylor's Cove that was named after Bart Naylor, his family is on the 1901 census. I know the period I'm interested in is a difficult one c1790s-1820s but you never know what information people might find.

You have https://www.logainm.ie/en/  which is developed by Dublin City University and they have compiled a list of placenames no longer found/used in Ireland

You could try asking them about Mullaynaymon, Co Wicklow.

email address etc at bottom of page.
