I am trying to establish a link with someone on my DNA list. I know that the individual must have an Oxfordshire connection, as he shares matches with myself, a cousin and her daughter. His tree has no reference to an Oxfordshire connection. I have checked the 1911 census and believe that I have found his great grandmother Winifred Maud Price born 1902 in the Strand London. Her Father was Edward Thomas Price and mother Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane is I believe the link to me as she came from Oxfordshire. I have found the Baptism records for Winifred and Phyllis, her sister, which shows that they were baptized in the Banbury South, Christchurch records on 27 Aug 1904. Winifred was born on 6 May 1902. I need to find Sarah Janes's maiden name, which would be simple if I could find her marriage, but I cannot. I am convinced that my family ( the King's ) are related to this Price family, but cannot establish the link. Can any kind person in Rootschat find Sarah Jane Price's maiden name?

Look up the childrens births on freebmd to get the reference then use GRO online to find Sarah’s maiden name. She may have been previously married in which case the marriage will have been under her previous married name but children's births will show her maiden name

The 1911 Census (transcribed on FamilySearch) has Sarah as age 43, born Banbury (which gives a birth year c1868)
There is a probable on the 1871 Census (FamilySearch ref GBC/1871/1464/0103) in Banbury:
BATES Charles, head, 35, labourer, born Bloxham
Martha, wife, 32, born Adderbury
Sidney R, son, 8, born Neithrop
Thomas, son, 6, born Adderbury
Sarah Jane, daughter, 4, born Neithrop
Jane, daughter, 1, born Banbury
A quick check on GRO for births in the Banbury Registration District gives the mother's maiden name for all these children as MOSS
This leads to a marriage on FreeBMD:
Mar qtr 1862 Banbury vol 3a p831 BATES Charles on same page as MOSS Martha.
So, with the births found by jonw65 and me, and if my 1871 census find is correct, this gives:
Charles BATES m Martha MOSS, Banbury 1862
daughter Sarah Jane MOSS (b1866) m Edward PRICE, Strand 1888
ADDED: The birth of Charles was before the introduction of civil registration, but I did find:
Birth Dec qtr 1837 Banbury Union vol 16 p12 MOSS Martha, mmn ELFRED

Hi Philip,
You may have struck oil! Charles Bates and Martha Moss are my great grandparents.

Philip,
Reading your reply again, you say: “So, with the births found by jonw65 and me, and if my 1871 census find is correct, this gives:
Charles BATES m Martha MOSS, Banbury 1862
daughter Sarah Jane MOSS (b1866) m Edward PRICE, Strand 1888”
Do you mean Sarah Jane Moss or Bates? Moss is the mothers name.

Hi, not sure if Philip has seen your last query but Freebmd shows Edward Price, Sarah Jane BATES marriage J Q 1888 Strand.

Hi John,
That seems to clear the query up and is in line with what I expected. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.
