He appears to have remarried in 1853 to Fanny Chittenden - do you have his marriage cert showing his fathers name?
-
Hi CaroleW
I have the certificate for the first 1830 marriage, and I see the witnesses are Daniel Kerswell (bride Patience Kerswell's brother) and William Milton/ Mitton. I don't see a father's name.
Sorry, I don't have the certificate for the second marriage with Fanny Chittenden, 15 Sep 1853 in Maidstone, Kent. It is in Vol 2a page 461.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Devon Lookup help:

1841 census do not give place of birth they just state whether or not they were born in the County that they were living in. His 'age' was given as 25, ages on the 1841 for those over 15 are rounded down to the nearest 5 years.
His occupation on that census was Stonemason J(ourneyman)
As marriages prior to 1837 when registration started do not give fathers details it may help to get his later Maidstone marriage

I've looked at the 1851 census and I think you'll find that the 'sher' part of the birthplace refers to Devon as in Devonshire. The enumerator would have written what he heard and a strong Devon accent would have sounded like 'Devonshur'.
In 1841 there is a Bristow family living in Bampton - John, wife & children. John appears to have been baptised at Bampton in 1805, son of Arthur & Mary - may be a clue. Again, you need the marriage certificate to Fanny Chittenden.

Hi all
Yes, I saw John & Mary Bristow also. Brother? Cousin?
I don't know how to access a marriage certificate. Do you?
Thanks.

If the certificate or a transcription are online the details re father will be transcribed. If not, you would have to buy a copy from the GRO
