Mentions in newspapers and valuation records seem to stop around 1852/3.
He advertised as Joseph W Higginbotham.

There must have been several other children. From newspaper reports, Joseph's eldest son John Lett Higginbotham died on 19 September 1832; and eldest daughter Elizabeth Jane married Samuel William Sherlock, son of John Sherlock of New Ross, in 1852.

As Joseph appears in Griffith's Valuation he was still alive in 1853, when the valuation was performed (published 1854). His neighbour was William Timpson, a brush maker, to whom I have a connection via marriage.
I believe there is a simple reason OP did not find Joseph's or William's births in the Ferns registers online: they were Protestant, not Catholic (at least at birth). The good news is that the CofI parish registers are extant, and are kept in Dublin.
As for a death registration, if Jospeh died in the period from 1853 to 1864, as is possible/probable, then there won't be any such record, as registration only started in 1864.

In the 1852 Marriage Register Joseph is Gentleman...
same Higginbotham family as here in 1738?

Indeed. But not Wexford, which is the one of interest.

That one actually says "Joseph W Higginbotham, 25 Main Street, Wexford"

Joseph W. Higginbotham was working in Wexford at least until 1858 according to Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World by Brian Loomis. His entry says born 1824 but no other details.
