Title: Both in Barvie Parish? GUILD/MORGAN
Post by: Liviani on Tuesday 04 February 20 16:44 GMT (UK)
Hello all.

Just been looking at the OPR marriage for my 5x great-grandparents Alexander Guild and Jean Morgan in 1804. This is recorded in Dundee.

I'm puzzled by the name of the parish they were both residing in at the time. It won't be Bervie which is much further north and wouldn't imagine they would marry in Dundee if they lived there.

Could it be a corruption of Benvie perhaps?

I wonder if it's Barrie (now Barry).

That makes more sense! Thank you, some of their children did end up living there. Didn't see the Barrie initially

I agree with GR2. Barry is the parish that contains part of Carnoustie, and it's not far from Dundee.

I grew up in Carnoustie. Have lots of ancestry in Barry and Panbride.

Many thanks to you both, turns out it was a simple solution.
