Title: Simcoe and Port Dover Kitchens.
Post by: up2you2 on Wednesday 05 February 20 05:42 GMT (UK)
Trying to establish if the two remaining Kitchens in this screen shot 2793 had a family - John Howard Kitchen 1908-1968 and Leo Laverne Kitchen 1899-1977.

The only possible leads I have been able to come up with are, two Kitchen deaths in the same area, which may or may not be related in some way:

Keith Howard Kitchen abt1936-2017 married Barbara Snider
https://simcoereformer.remembering.ca/obituary/keith-howard-kitchen-1073362921

Donald Kitchen 1916-1976 married Florence Kathleen Cox 1920-2010 - https://simcoereformer.remembering.ca/obituary/florence-kathleen-kitchen-1073357213

I would be most grateful for any assistance please.

For what it is worth, a tree on the same site says Keith Howard Kitchen was the son of Henry Ellsworth Kitchen and Emily Ann Rebecca McLaren. They have Helen Jones' name right, as in his obituary which you posted.

A different tree, same site, says Donald William Kitchen was the son of Elmer William Kitchen and Eva Fredrica Gardiner.

This tree doesn't have children for John Howard or Leo Lavergne Kitchen.

Great selection of finds Sandra.

Ruth Kitchen (Ken Smith) I know quite well but I didn't realize Ruth was a Kitchen.  We were away when she died.  Son Wayne I see all the time.

I also know an Erle Kitchen and wonder if he is one of Ward Erland's descendants as the spelling is rather unusual.  This lot were in Norfolk, St. George (north of Brantford) and Oxford County.  I will ask about his connection the next time I see him and send a PM to the posts.

Norfolk County Archives have a huge collection which you can access here

https://www.nca-ebdm.ca/

They are very helpful when comes to family history.

Good morning,

I do know there are some Kitchen family members still residing in Port Dover - I attended university with one of them many years ago and as far as I know he is still living there. Have you tried using Canada411 site to connect with Kitchen family members there?

Thank you - valid suggestion.
First of all I am located in Phuket, Thailand, expense and time difference has ruled this out though in practice.
I have been trying to contact the living for eight years now, first of all on my own Tree, then my half sister's.
Cold calling is not easy, a skill or an art, let's put it this way, I'm still working on it.

Good evening,

I know cold calling can be hard. Perhaps you can contact the public library there and get an email addy and then contact that way. If you google the kitchen name and place, there are some obits that come up showing names that may be useful in your search.

Hi there,

I would just like to add that Canada411 also generally has complete addresses so you could use these to write letters. When using the website I would put just the last name in the "who" section.

Made some progress in the last couple of months on Leo Laverne Kitchen's line, see screen shot 2899.

Although I have found Kathy and Joe, I have had no luck in finding her brothers Douglas and Jack.
As I have been unable to find them or their wives living, I was wondering if any of them might have passed away. Again no luck in finding any obituaries.

Opal Irene seemingly left nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. So there should be a way in tying them in somehow.

Hopefully they will not be deceased.  You could try contacting Ferris Funeral Home in Simcoe and ask them to pass a message to those couples mentioned in the obituary of Opal Irene Kitchen-Cleeves.

Hi.

I am just wondering if the individual(s) have  simply moved out of town. I have sent a message to a  new DNA match who is a Kitchen. This person is located in Windsor, not that far from Port Dover/Simcoe, Yours may be in a neighbouring town?

That's as far back as I have got Samuel Kitchen Unknown - Unknown.

Have you established a connection between your DNA test and Henry?
If so could you please detail what you have found.

I have found some further details on Henry.

I can't prove it as yet, but the strongest candidate I have found is:

Samuel Kitchen 1783-1867 married Elizabth Bell 1779-1861
Children:
Jacob 1800-1876
Mary C 1839-

There was Mary born 1880 - a sister to Samuel who died in 1839

I had the same thought as Sandra about the Mary born 1839.

Also, about Jacob b. 1800….
While not impossible, I wonder if Samuel might have been a bit young to have married and had a child? Perhaps he might be Samuel’s brother as some of those trees seem to suggest, bearing in mind that one should be careful about the accuracy of online trees? Just a thought.

Thank you for your input here, the Mary C. Kitchen Winchell born in 1839 only comes from the original poster here - Mattman Yancey.
Sure I'm kinda grasping at straws here.

Samuel Kitchen 1783-1867 came from/resided in Morpeth, Chatham-Kent Division, Ontario.
So this got me thinking if there were any other Kitchens of this era, buried in this locality.
There's numerous Kitchens in the Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery Morpeth, Chatham-Kent Municipality, Ontario, Canada.

Samuel seemingly had a daughter Mary Kitchen 1839-, now I have found one in this cemetery born 1840.
She dies in Detroit in 1908 under the married name of Duck.
The original poster has her coming up as a Winchell, maybe she re-married.

Thanks for this.
It looks like it is a Samuel Kitchen from Ontario for sure, pre 1827, I will put this into my subconcious.
The name Kitchen is not one that is reasily adopted, and generally speaking all Canadian Kitchens seem to trace back to New Jersey.
