a couple possibilities for Ellen Mcgrath's death, both in St Joseph New Cemetery

d 11 May 1881, buried Cincinnati
St Joseph New Cemetery
Section 1, Lot 23, Division B
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/129414212

according to findagrave there is also a John McGrath, d 7 July 1903, in the same plot, but they are all common names, so it doesn't prove a lot.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/129414257/john-mcgrath

another Ellen McGrath, died 3 Feb 1893, buried Cincinnati, St Joseph New Cemetery
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/129414211

there are about a dozen John McGraths buried in that cemetery, all dying before 1920 or so. more after that.

This could possibly be Ellen' s death.

This appears to be the right Ellen. Further research shows she was born in Ireland and was 57 years old (born about 1836).

That's her. I'm finding the family at that address, 29 Dhonau.

1893 Cincinnati Directory
McGrath
John, overseer, overseer the poor, 9th district, home 29 Dhonau
John Jr, brick layer, 29 Dhonau
Walter, blacksmith, Dhonau St, 25th ward

1895
McGrath
  John, house 29 Dhonau
John Jr, brick layer, 29 Dhonau
  Walter, blacksmith, 33 Dhonau

still working forward for John Sr's death.

This appears to be John McGrath's death in 1896. Born Ireland, address is same street listed for Ellen in 1893, age 63 (born about 1833) & buried St Joseph  Cemetery.

Edit to add-
This is definitely the right John. He is listed as meat packer on the card. Looking back at the 1880 census, he is listed as a butcher.

that's him. He disappears from the City Directory after 1896
They might have renumbered the houses.

1896
  John, butcher, 1627 Dhonau
John Jr, brick layer, 1627 Dhonau
  Walter, blacksmith, 1631 Dhonau

but:

1897
  Walter, blacksmith, 1631 Dhonau
John, carpenter 824 Kenyon, janitor 302 Butler, paper hanger 1081 Mound, b.k.h. 1214 Broadway, painter 712 Barr

edit to add:
He was a butcher on the 1880 Census.

You're welcome.
It's too bad they didn't live until 1908 when Ohio started using a full death certificate which asked for the parents' names and places of birth.

The earliest child I can find for them is Anastasia, born 29 Aug 1871 in Cincinnati, Ohio, according to her death record (9 October 1937, Bellevue, Kentucky), if that is any help. I forget if we ever figured out when Michael arrived.
