Title: RedRuth district
Post by: silver cloud on Thursday 13 February 20 13:10 GMT (UK)
Hi
Can anyone tell me where the registration district will have been for Redruth in 1839, trying to find a birth certificate, only ones that come close are camelford or Penzance
Thanks for any help if possible

It was Redruth.

https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/redruth.html

Bear in mind that birth registration wasn't compulsory in England until 1875 and many births went unregistered.

Redruth Registration District was created  1 July 1837 and abolished 1 April 1974 to become Camborne Redruth.

1851 census simply says he was born in England? Living in Jersey.

Peter Street, Jersey
Reference: Class: HO107, Piece: 2527, Folio: 206, Page: 33

Boase, John  Head  M  40  Shoe Maker  b England
Boase, Betsey  Wife  F  40  b England
Boase, William  Son  M  10  b England
Boase, Mary  Daughter  F  4  b England
Boase, John  Son  M  12  b England

Marriage:
17 May 1836 at Falmouth
John Boase, bachelor  to  Betsey Broadley, spinster

GRO Index search doesn't show any Boase births, with a MMN of Broadley, around 1839?

But it does show:

    BOASE, JOSEPH        BROADLEY
GRO Reference: 1842  D Quarter in FALMOUTH UNION  Volume 09  Page 83

    BOASE, MARY        BROADLEY
GRO Reference: 1847  D Quarter in SOUTHAMPTON  Volume 07  Page 212

It does seem that the birth was not registered.

Have you tried looking through the scans of the parish registers on familysearch.org?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GGFT-9ZZ9?i=41&wc=3CB7-FMS%3A138123201%2C140652101%2C140652102&cc=1769414 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GGFT-9ZZ9?i=41&wc=3CB7-FMS%3A138123201%2C140652101%2C140652102&cc=1769414)
They've been transcribed and indexed, but you might find a possible error. I had a quick scan through the 25 or so pages for 1839 without success.

There's a non-conformist baptism for son Joseph here
https://cornwall-opc-database.org/
Baptism Circuit   Falmouth, Wesleyan Methodist
Forename   Joseph
Surname   BOASE
Sex   son
Father Forename   John
Mother Forename   Betsy
Residence   Falmouth
Parish Or Reg District
Father Rank Profession
Day Month   04-Jan
Year   1843
Age   Born Decr 3rd 1842
Where Baptised   Falmouth W-M Chapel

but not John or other siblings.

Perhaps John & Betsey didn't get around to registering or baptising the early children?
