Born approx 1844 Died approx 1888

Lived in Matlock, Derbyshire, England

Thank you in anticipation

W N Slatham had a studio in Matlock between 1888 and 1932

Do you think the sitter looks to be in his early 40's?

No I don't think so, the photo would be in a different format in the 1880s. This looks like a much later reprint of an earlier photo.

Follow the advise offered by Shaun to see what information is contained on his sea going career .
If its minimal. Get in touch with London Metropolitan Archives Who are the custodians of Lloyd's Captains Register. They have this on him.
PEARSON, Norman b. Matlock, Derby 1843 Certificate number 24604, obtained  Liverpool 1870 vol.11 1871-1873; vol.23 1874; vol.38 no voyages listed
