If this marriage actually did happen, it didn't last long, Sophia married John Kostraba in 1936.

Follow-up

It appears the marriage did go forward, and he was then arrested and charged with bigamy a week later. Supposedly he was to be deported. Did that happen? If so, he must have re-entered the United States at a later date. Perhaps this why he doesn't seem to appear in the 1940 census.

That was a good find,  Did you get the date of birth for George from his birth certificate ?  19/1/1902  ???
I read a similar one recently where the guy was sent to Sing Sing prison for 18 months.  ???

The Niagara Falls Gazette Niagara Falls, NY was Saturday, Nov. 4, 1933
The border crossing Canada to the USA for George Hutchison Taylor  - 26 April 1930 gave the date 11-6-1933 ???  If that is written the American way - 6-11-1933 - could that be a date he was deported  ???  Seems very quick, not sure how those things would work.

Don’t know of him ever coming back to the Peterhead area in Scotland. It was only when my grandmother died in 1981 my Aunt found correspondence from the Salvation Army She had been trying to trace him

I'm a little skeptical about that George Taylor Birth Date 19 Jan 1902 - died 19 July 1996, being the same George Hutchison Taylor sought.

The SS# associated with that George Taylor was issued in Tennessee between 1936 and 1950. What would he be doing in Tennessee? Nobody goes to Tennessee. But people from there do go up to Detroit to find work in the auto industry.

I see you have received his birth certificate and the month & day are different from the SSDI record. While the year of birth often can vary, the month & day usually remain consistent. Example- that George who died in 1996 has YOB as 1902 on SS death record, but when he made a claim in 1966 he stated he was born 1903. The month & day of birth remained the same.

His sister Elizabeth Ann died in 1989.

Her obit list as living; her husband Frank, a son, a daughter and a sister Flora Smith. No mention of a brother George who would have been alive if that was him who died in 1996 Michigan.

This is new to me but while living abroad do people not use their middle name as Hutchinson is not down the list as I said this is the first form I have seen like this

One of my uncles tried to trace him a few years back. This is where I got the first dob (19/1/1902)
Now with the new dob (10/4/1902) confirmed with his birth certificate, it looks like we are back to square one.
I thought using his middle name Hutchison he would be easier to trace as it’s not a common name. We were never in contact with any of his siblings while growing up so have absolutely no information on him apart from the emigration and deportation paper clippings.
I would like to thank everyone who have so far contributed to the search.i really appreciate it  ;)

Elizabeth

In my experience as a lifelong American, most of us have middle names.  They're not always used in making indexes of vital records.  Sometimes just initials will show up, or sometimes nothing is in the middle.

Thank you for the reply
I now understand what I was looking at on one of the forms given no middle name

Don't give up Liz I'm sure your on the right track

I'm having trouble with a Robert Stark born Scotland there's a lot of them in Scotland it's just getting the right parents
I was going from the date of his birth from a family bible from a relative another relative posted his death certificate both had birth and death dates 12 of October but the years were different
So keep at it

I've had a look in Scotlandpeople and I cannot find a death for George in there around 1965
But I found a George H Taylor died Dec Quarter 1965 aged 63 Manchester on Free BMD
The thing is  you might send for the death certificate and it might be him
So he must have stayed in Canada or America

The USA Social Security Death Index doesn't show any George Taylor born 10/4/1902

The SSDI was fully up and running by about 1963. Sadly -  Canada does not have a BMD index to check.
