Title: Dagley Family from Shenley Village
Post by: poohatbarton on Tuesday 25 February 20 18:22 GMT (UK)
Can anyone assist please, I am trying to find census records etc on William DAGLEY bn 1849 in Shenley in Hertfordshire, I did find his birth registration but the only other entry I have found is on Familysearch 1891 census which shows him as a Drill sergeant in the Dorset Regiment with four children. It gives his age as 40yrs and his wife Lily as 21yrs. Unfortunately birth registrations show Lily as the mother of three of the children the eldest of the three being 11yrs which leads me to think it is a printing or transcribing error. Has anyone access to  other census returns with this couples details??

Can you post the full 1891 entry or the link to the FS entry as I’m having problems finding it from the info given.

No names/ages/birthplaces of children or Lily’s birthplace which would help in any search

From Family Search

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VCR3-WY4

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VCR3-D4J

GRO online shows dtr Lily as Lily Constance mmn Richards.  As William was a widower - son b 1880 is from first marriage

You need to amend your subject  header from Dagley to Briers to avoid further confusion - see header to this reply

Is this a possibility for Williams parents?

And a possibility for his first marriage given his military background.  If correct - he liked his wives young!!

There is a tree on Ancestry showing son William b 16.3.1880 Nowgong India died Portsmouth 1956.  1911 census confirms birthplace

Son John b 1885 Aldershot died 1917.  Married Ethel M Cummings 1915 Portsmouth

Mother Bridget is shown as died Malta between 1885 - 1889 but this must be 1887 in view of remarriage to Lily Richards

If you have Ancestry access - here’s the link.
