Title: Blakeway and Longford Pitchford 1550
Post by: BronwenS on Monday 02 March 20 09:00 GMT (UK)

Looking for the birth of this man and the details of his marriage to Anne Longford.  And any details on Joan Glasket, her birth? was this her second marriage?  Seems unlikely that this is her also
a Jane Glaskett married to John Borton in Munslow 1567.  Her and her husband William Blakeway did go on to have at least 7 children.

Are you sure of your dates as you have Ann Longford born 1561 and marrying in 1574 (age 13).

1577 GLASKET
Joane Glasket wife of William Blakeway   (there is a Jane Glaskett married to John Borton in Munslow 1567 perhaps first marriage)

If it was a second marriage she should have married as Joane Borton

...
William Blakeway
d.1637 Apr 7 (a very old man) abode Goze Bradeley, Holy Trinity, Much Wenlock, Shropshire, Eng.
If he was the William born 1577 he would only have been 60 years old so not really classed as a very old man.  ???

Blakeway is a local surname, derived from Black Way (a dark lane).  The name continues today, as in Blakeway Hollow, Blakeway Coppice and Blakeway Farm, all below Wenlock Edge, near Much Wenlock in Shropshire.  There are currently 76 Blakeways in the current Shropshire Electoral Roll.  A Blakeway Society, formed to study the family history, has sadly closed but the Guild of One-name Studies lists Blakeway as an on-going project.

The family of Blakeway, of Caughley,
appears in 1570, and it had members living at Cronk-
hill, in the Parish of Atcham, about the same period.

Thanks again this is wonderful I do have lots of the Parish registers for Shropshire but not all.

I know about the Blakeways going forward, but his birth I haven't got.  I understood from something I read that generally they married in the Woman's parish.  See my note below re the Glaskets.

I haven't checked out the Glaskets properly yet but will do in the next few hours.  I have a katherine and a Dorothy in here, which I must have got from somewhere.  It doesn't seem reasonable that they had a child a year after they were married and then not have another until 1600, but I cannot find them in the Much Wenlock register?

I can see those entries in Geneanet, that you sent a link for but can't get any further.  Oddly enough when I log into the site I don't get these two specific ones which is what I want to look at.  Do you have further access other than what you sent me.  If so I would be grateful for any other information you can find on this.
