Hi everyone,
I hope this is the right section.
I am trying to locate any photos or documents related to my great, great grandmother Ada Nicholls.
She was born Ada (Ida) Woodward in 1865 in North Nibley, Gloucestershire. She married Daniel Nicholls in 1885 and moved to Gwrhay (could be the surrounding areas like Oakdale)
They had nine children together including my great grandmother Susan Nicholls born in 1895.
Ada died in December 1915 roughly aged 50. Unsure of cause of death but if anybody knows that would ge great.
If anybody has any photos or documents or has any more information on her I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

Seems there are 2 Ada's - one with father George. She also born 1865 and marries 1885.
I can find her on 1871 census but not your Ada yet.

I wonder if this is her born Berkeley in 1871
William Hall head 46
Susan Woodward 41 servant
Eliza 10 daughter
Ada 7 daughter
William 4 son
Thomas 92 lodger
Not sure if Susan is married or unmarried - bit unclear as is her age.
-
1861?
Thomas Woodward 81 widowed
Susannah 30 widowed - looks like sister? daughter?
Elizabeth 10
Charles 7

Where has North Nibley come from as her birthplace?
Census birthplaces are:
1891 Berkeley, Gloucestershire
1901 Allmore, Gloucestershire (Halmore?)
1911 Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
So she doesn't really know where she was born.

I'm catching up with all these replies and although all very interesting Ada's father was called William Woodward.
Unsure of his birth date but I'm guessing sometime in the mid to late 1830's... just a pure guess so please forgive me.
Ada was born in Berkeley but grew up in a village called North Nibley. They are both only ten minutes apart so there could be a slight confusion with the location but its geographically right in terms of area.
I'm unsure who her mother is... I know there Is another Ada going around with a father called George but this is not my great great grandmother.
Ada and Daniel moved to the Caerleon area towards the late 1880's.
Sadly, I don't have any surviving photos of her, would love to find some but having no luck.
Thanks everyone!! 😊
George

Ada was born in Berkeley but grew up in a village called North Nibley and in 1871 there is a record to prove this.
Can you tell us what this 'record' is please? I can only see one Ada in Nibley in 1871 and she was the daughter of George WOODWARD and Emma WORKMAN.
Debra :)

I'm unsure who her mother is...
I would say her mother is the Susan Woodward who married William Hall.
A suggestion would be when Ada married she put William as her father but changed the surname to Woodward to match her own. This wasn't uncommon.
Do we know when Susan was widowed? That could be significant as to the father.

1881? Berkeley
William Hall 56
Susan 47
Ada 17 born Halmore Glos dairymaid
William 14
Ada and William match the ages in the 1871 but under Woodward
