Title: stone Description
Post by: toby webb on Thursday 05 March 20 12:11 GMT (UK)
I would be grateful for some help with the correct description of part of a memorial stone. It concerns the inscription area.
Would it be described as
"inset panel with a flat surface"  or "depressed escutcheon"   or something else?
Thanks for any help. Toby.

Hi Toby,
I would say it would either be a 'recessed panel' if it is cut into the stone or an 'inlaid/inset panel' if it is a separate piece of material.

Thank you belatedly PeteRae. Somehow I missed your response. Meanwhile I have been to the cemetery and ,this time in brilliant sunshine, was able to read the inscriptions. T
