There is also this marriage which may possibly be connected - siblings perhaps?

yes, another member, but with the John marriage, as there were a few Johns around the same age, I am trying to find who his father is.
Thanks

You won't get that info from a marriage pre 1837.  Fathers names were only included when Civil Reg was introduced on 1.7.1837

I suppose I just got used to seeing them on the Cornish Registers I thought Devon was the same.
Cheers

Thankyou, How far away from Mary Tavy is Ashburton?

In the census he is born in Mary Tavy, but birth record has him born in Asburton.

There are more that 1 johns, sons of Edward and Mary
s/o john and Mary
s/o Sampson and Elizabeth
and possibly a few more.

Quite a hike, 21.6 miles. It says he was baptised in Ashburton, not born there.  ;)

There are other’s with that surname born Mary Tavy, around the same time:

A James: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGJ4-G37

A Phillip: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGJ4-G37

A John christening 1813, folks Edward and Mary:

A Phillip, folk’s Edward and Ann  :-\:

Maybe she was Mary Ann.  ;)

Yes, one would expect it to be Mary Tavy.

I have added to previous post.

There were so many John's born in devon at the same time, I know of at least 3, different parents, even Ancestry has them confused. Thats why I thought seeing  the John/Warne marriage might show his father, clear it up once and for all.
Thanks again

I would suggest he was the John baptised 1812 Ashburton, son of Sampson and Elizabeth.   Sampson not a common name for the time especially coupled with the surname Nankivell, and I note that John and his wife named a son Sampson.

As to stating birthplace as Mary Tavy on 1851 census, the information may have been given by his wife rather than he himself and she assumed since they met and married in Mary Tavy that he was born there too.

Sampson Nankivell aged 54 (bc.1781) buried Ashburton 7/12/1835.
