Title: Pope of St. Merryn
Post by: Finley 1 on Sunday 15 March 20 18:00 GMT (UK)
I have a birth (illegitimate ) of Mary Pope 1780 /82  St Merryn  she marries my GG x3 Sampson Talluck  in 1809.

I think I have the correct death for her and a 'find a grave' memorial  -- to go and see one fine day maybe... The date of her death is 1836 in Padstow.

She is the mother of Maria my 2 gg... and I have all needed on most of this line.

MY problem is Mary  --- I have her Mothers name as Mary POPE  from Cornwall opr but cannot find more on her.

So I am hoping that someone can find more on Mary Pope and her mother (born c. 1764)  --  would be wonderful if you could xxx

Have you looked for the birth of Mary's mother in the surrounding villages to St Merryn on free reg?

Free reg has Mary's baptism as 5th November 1780 - why have you put 1780/1782?

There is also a baptism for a Mary Pope in St Merryn in 1740, perhaps she was just an 'older' spinster when she gave birth.

I note on freereg Mary died age 54, which is probably where the 1782 comes from.

Mary TALLACK   Burial age 54   13 Apr 1836   Cornwall   Padstow : St Petroc

Hello

Thanks for that - I had 1780 --- and then when checking saw another date of 1782 on the Burial record.

Yes searched all around for Mary's Mum nearby villages..  I noted one Anc person has her father as Bartholomew.... but I think that is a guestimate......:)  I have searched the cornwall OPC a fair few times... but this time no magic from them.. they usually offer up something :)

Burials on Freereg, sadly no ages, was this the mother of Mary 1780?

Mary POPE   Burial   23 Jun 1781   Cornwall   St Merryn : St Merryn

Mary POPE   Burial   02 Oct 1799   Cornwall   St Merryn : St Merryn

Was this the daughter of the above I wonder?
Maria POPE   Burial   13 Oct 1799   Cornwall   St Merryn : St Merryn

Hi Fin,
What I am suggesting is  the possibility that the 1881 burial is the mother of Mary who married Samson?

On the other hand was she the other Mary who died 1799 after giving birth to Maria, less likely I think but worth consideration as Mary and Samson had a daughter Maria?

I am confused with the last post Colin.. but thanks anyway :)
Mary by the time she had Maria with Sampson in 1815 was Mary Talluck so the same lady buried in St. Petroc in 1836.

Hang on... Its me :)  as per....

I will go back and reflect on your earlier post with free bmd dates and compare with OPC   but I had seen Mary Pope 1799 burial previously and discounted it.. due to her marrying Samson  so Yes this could well be Mary Pope senior.. oh dear its a crazy game this.
