Off Licences (that's 'Liquor Store' for our friends across the pond) are now on the list of businesses that are allowed to stay open (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close-guidance#businesses-and-premises-that-must-remain-closed). (UK)
I suppose they are less busy that supermarkets.
-
Personally I think garden centres more essential than off licences, maybe it’s to reduce the pressure
on supermarkets,

I guess it depends on how you like to spend your spare time. If people want to take the edge off with a tipple that's fine by me. :D

Me too - hic What am I saying, I don’t drink .
The cynic in me says Bojo is after some revenue :D
-
It seems to me to be an open invitation to buy some six packs and get your friends round for a drink.

I suppose they have to recognize that some people will have alcohol dependence, and sudden withdrawal could have detrimental effects.
-
Have not "offies" always been essential?. They certainly were before it was possible buy drink from almost every corner shop, supermarket and garage in the land. I believe supermarkets are imposing restrictions on the amount of drink customers are allowed to buy.
:)

That is the reason being cited for leaving our LCBO (Liquor Control Board Ontario) stores open, albeit now on reduced opening hours (and closed on Mondays). Plus they are a source of revenue for the Provincial government. I also noticed that a supermarket near me that sells wine and beer, now has a sign up saying these goods are no longer for sale (even though the items remain on the shelves).

I wonder how people dependent on illegal drugs will cope.

Why, thank you. I always wondered what it meant.

That's Rootschat for you, informative and entertaining. :)

They don't need to worry one bit about their supply. The police are busy It's the fact that their immunity is most probably lower will cause them problems.
They can still get their Meth from the chemist every day too.

I just figured that after 2 days of home schooling, parents were now calling Off Licenses essential..........
(and no, I'm not being serious!!!)

I agree, garden centres should be allowed to open. My brother wanted to plant his seed potatoes before the end of the month. But now he can't go and buy them. They're probably in the closed shop rotting away, onion and shallot sets as well.

I have just ordered some seed potatoes online. Admittedly postage adds to the expense but I only ordered them as I was buying something else.

Had an e-mail a few days ago from our local garden centre who are now doing online orders and deliveries locally. No wonder it has so many awards :)

We've just realised we really need a Garden Centre - Right Now! - grow-bags, replacing a broken tool, netting, a few other things..... Drat! Enough to drive us to drink.

Some excuse ;D ;D
-
Mr G is a fortune teller - he ordered 4 cases a couple of weeks back. It arrived on Monday, just after my Sainsburys delivery ;D
PS - It's all for him now as we can't invite friends around. I only take an occasional sip!
-
"4 cases"
Yikes, 4 cases of what?
-
48 bottles on wine.
The wine society that we use only delivers in bulk ;D
Missed the quote:
Update (26/3): We are aware that certain businesses selling alcohol from shop premises have been added to the list of 'essentials'. However, it is not clear, and certainly not confirmed that alcohol as a product is an essential. We are seeking clarity and keeping this under review.

Add - if you ever visit Newcastle, you'd be quite welcome to drop in and have a glass :D

Good evening,
Many "off licences" also sell groceries. Only the big chains that don't and not so many of them now since threshers went bust.
For threshers read, unwins, victoria wines and at least 4 others that were bought out by threshers. Mind has gone blank so can't remember the others they took over.

Our local garden centre also has an excellent grocery/meat/fruit and veg section. I believe it’s still open.
-
I only think of an off licence as a local/corner shop selling essentials plus alcohol rather than alcohol and a few other items.
With regard to garden centres, many seem to have expanded into clothing, gifts and specialised food outlets of late.

Delivers in bulk? - that's half a vineyard. A glass, from 48 bottles? .... :o
:)
-
"A glass, from 48 bottles? .... "
Mr. G. needn't worry that I would deplete his stock even if I were to make it to Newcastle. On a drinking scale from 0 to 9, I'm about a 0.2, maybe a little lower.
-
I've had 2 glasses so far this year ;D
He's an optimist and buys for a few years hence.
-
I'm an optimist too. That's why I'm hoping for slightly more than a glass, but that also depends on the size of the glass!!.
:)
-
Good evening,
Can we bring our own glass? I have one that holds a whole bottle. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Greedy or what? ;D ;D ;D Can't fault you :D
