Title: John Watson Emigration to New Zealand
Post by: ryanh315 on Thursday 26 March 20 11:34 GMT (UK)
Hi everybody,

My great great uncle was John WATSON he was born in 1888 son of George and Jane Grant WATSON. His wife was Robina Mary WATSON. She died in New Zealand along with her children, but I don't know if John emigrated to New Zealand with her. I assume he did. He was still in Whitehills in 1926 when his last child Elizabeth was born. Do you know any places to look for Scottish emigration records?

Many thanks  :)

Ryan

Hi Ryan

Did he marry in Scotland do you know and where were the children born?

I don't know where Whitehills is, when did Robina die?

Have you looked for a death in Scotland for John, I wonder if he died and she emigrated after that  :-\

He married in Whitehills where his four children were born.

There is a possible match on ScotlandsPeople, which I must have mistaken for another John! Will have to buy a PDF of it and take a look.

Robina died in 1968 she is buried in NZ.

Thanks

Ryan

John at same cemetery:

WATSON, John Alexander
Date of Death 18-2-1968
Age   65 years
Cemetery   Lumsden
Location of Grave 48 Block VII

WATSON, Robina Mary
Occupation Married
Address Roxburgh
Date of Death 1-10-1961
Age   51 years
Cemetery   Lumsden
Location of Grave 48 Block VII

Something amiss with the above.

1968/49267 Watson Robina Mary 80Y

Their marriage in Scotland:

WATSON John to WATSON Robina 1910 149/A 10 Boyndie

So, was his middle name Alexander, or a name beginning with W?

As an aside, this appears to connected to the family, as I think the Jane L who is in NZ is Jane Lovie:

WATSON Jane Lovie 1920 149/A 25 Boyndie
