Hi all,
looking for Edgar Melville Ambrose. Born abut 1899 in Sri Lanka (possible Colombo). Father Edgar (Eddie) Ambrose, mother Blanch.
I think he emigrated to Australia, but that's only from hear say (my Nan told me years and years ago).
So, my questios are: did he in fact go to Australia ? When ?
When did he die ? Is there any record somewhere, which mentioned the names of his parents.
Did he get married ? Any children ?
I know, a lot of questions. But since we all have to stay inside right now (is that the same in Australia btw ?), I thought I have more time to research the familytree. Maybe someone can get me some more details about EM Ambrose.....
Thank you for your time.

oh btw, he was still in Colombo 1920, when he broke his leg on February 16 (according to a newspaper article).

There is a man of that name in electoral rolls at various addresses in Victoria from 1963 to 1980. Probable wife Marie Amelia at the same addresses. An additional male Ambrose is listed at the same address in 1980.

The additional male is her son.
I can’t locate a death for Edgar. At least not a the main, online Melbourne cemeteries. Not on VICBDM either which have deaths up until 1990. No joy with NSW either.

thank you all !
If I look at the age difference between Edgar and Amelia it's 40 years !
So could this be his second wife ?
Is there a date of marriage to be found ?
If he came to Australia in 1956, he would have been 56/57 yeras old. Isn't that a bit old to emigrate ?
Maybe he alraedy was a widower by then. But to find any BMD info in Sri Lanka is almost impossible. I haven't been able to find anything at all :'(
I have a photo of Edgar and his parents and siblings. Maybe if I post it here someone would recognise him ???
what's your opinion ?

The death notice for Maria implies that her husband was still living at her time of death. Therefore, your Edgar isn’t going to be her husband, as he would be well over 100 years old.
Maybe he came here to be with family members who were already here.
I don’t think you need to post a photo. His name isn’t common, so anyone searching should pick up on it.

hi Jamjar
you're right. If the death notice implies that the husband is still alive, then it can't be my Edgar Melville.
I also thought that the death notice would have said that Maria is the widow of... instead of wife of...
What a shame, it isn't him. Maybe my Nan was wrong all along about her cousin moving to Australia.
