Title: Diary > Tuesday 14th April
Post by: trystan on Tuesday 14 April 20 10:30 BST (UK)
I thought I'd start the diary today!

7am. I hear the bin lorry - great stuff, our bins are getting emptied. Whoohoo. Small pleasures.

I shower and dress quickly to retrieve the empty bin before somebody even thinks of putting their rubbish in it. Ha. I wore a disposable glove to move it then threw the glove in the bin, closed the lid with a trowel. I the washed my hands well. One job done. Great stuff.

Wonderfully bright morning, the sky blue, the air crisp filled with the aroma of a spring morning. The birds appear to be enjoying the skies, swooping from chimney pots, Blackbird chirping merrily as if intoxicated on a good haul of worms.

Read some of my newspaper sub. Experimented with my porridge this morning, three measures of milk, two of water. Tasted just as good. A small amount of Golden Syrup. Lovely.

We're planning on going to our allotment today. We've not gone for about four or five weeks since we were 'spooked' by the lady in the plot next to us laughing-off coronavirus and trying to get closer towards us. Looking forward to going there. We're planning on planting our late potatoes and general weeding. Should be good.

Allotment holders are permitted to attend their allotment during the lockdown as long as social distancing is observed.

Over to you, how is your day?

It’s the end of Tuesday here.  There was a noticeable drop in the temperature, only 16 degrees, there was a cold southerly and quite heavy showers of rain kept coming across, so we abandoned the gardening we had planned for today.
Since it was cooler, I decided it was time to sort out my winter wardrobe. Pulled everything out and discovered I have plenty. (And that it fits!) Especially as I am not going to work. I relieve for other people whom I expect won’t be able to afford me after lockdown so  I’ll be a home body for some time to come. Perhaps I have retired??
Anyway, if I am not careful I could just put jeans on every day, so I have decided to sort out a roster to make sure everything gets worn! It does seem a shallow concern.

Did some more transcribing and wrote some emails.
My husband did some baking, so chocolate chip oatmeal biscuit with my coffee after dinner.
Messaged with my daughter in London. She is saying their local corner shop is marking up the food. What totalled £11 last week was £15 this week.

We are supposed to come out of lockdown a week from tomorrow but today, you can tell, they are starting to prepare us for the likelihood of extending it.  Maybe some areas will be let out before others. We shall see.

My day has run like this:  I was up ridiculously early to try and make an account with my milk delivery company.  I've had home delivery for over 20 years but always paid my bill via card over the phone.  However, no-one ever seems to be in the office nowadays so I've had to try and make an account online in order to pay.  Harder than it seems, as their websites says they 'aren't taking any new customers'.... anyway I think I'm sorted now.

Being up early I got through the usual morning routine earlier and so was into the park about an hour or so earlier than normal.  And joy....I could count on my hand the number of other people there.  Lovely birdsong to be heard this morning and I returned home in a better mood than I left!

Market day in town and so managed to get in a few supplies which had been depleted over Easter- but it all seems to take so very long. Cheerful, chatty M&S till staff which is always nice.  A long trudge home with ladened trolley.  Once back it is always a dilemma...To wash and wipe down or not to wash & wipe?  That is the question....  I did a quick anti-bac and threw away some paper wrappings.  I think I must be a bit of a fatalist.

A few odd sights in town.  A man in t-shirt and shorts wearing ski gloves???  Another man who put his hand over his mouth and held his other hand out (all he need was a crucifix) in order to halt someone coming too near.  And some funky looking face masks seems to be the order of the day also.

It was burgers and salad tonight.

Looking forward to part 2 of 'Quiz'

Stay safe!

Half the day spent trying to get a shopping delivery.  After a carrot or two of hope was dangled then whisked away managed to book a click and collect for early next week.

Braved leaving the house for a little walk this afternoon which lasted all of 3 minutes as there were too many people doing the same to avoid safely so I turned tail and scuttled back home to safety.

Had a few potters round the garden.  Started yet another jigsaw.  Watched the daily briefing.

With regards to the man in the post above holding his hand out to stop people coming too close I think we should all go out armed with lollipop lady sticks with "Keep back please" on one side and if the other person doesn't comply flip to the other side which says "I said Keep back" or something a little stronger!

Good and bad for me today.

Phoned the pharmacy this morning to ask when they think I'll receive my preventative inhaler that was shown as owed when my other items were delivered almost two weeks ago. I was told that they can't get this particular type of inhaler, I said I'd read that in the news that there were problems and asked what to do as I didn't know. She was telling me that I'd need to ring my doctor and ask for an alternative, then she said hold on a minute, a delivery has just arrived and it would be sent to me tomorrow. Hooray! To be honest I'm a bit confused about there being an alternative, I don't know anything about the contents, I should read up on it.

That was the good bit. The bad bit - I moved something in the garage and did so awkwardly and pulled my back.  :'(  I haven't done anything like that for a very long time, I've still been able to get about okay but it feels a bit painful and weak. As a result I just sat out sunbathing and reading my book, so not all bad. At least I'd already been for my walk before I did it so I did have some exercise.

My inhaler was actually delivered late this afternoon, I don't need it for a few days so quarantined it because it's plastic and is inside a cardboard box, no reflection on the pharmacy but I don't like to take any chances.

Started off this morning with an hours Yogalates following our teacher whose doing live sessions on FB.... felt really good afterwards, upbeat and wanting to get on and do other things rather that mope about and not settle on anything in particular...

After having a coffee decided I'd do the ironing...
Friend rang so had a long natter with her, she works at Gatwick airport and says it's quite busy, engineers coming in, so they have to be security checked, as there are 350 planes standing unused... 7 cargo flights daily and security check over the entire airport, so glad she's able to carry on working.

Started the ironing in between doing the washing and hanging it out... the sun belied the chilly wind so felt quite chilly out in the garden...

OH made lunch, sandwich, we sat in the conservatory and listened to the birds there seem to be a lot more about and they're very vocal... two blackbirds chasing one another round the darken, such territorial birds, that was inbetween them being in the flower borders chucking the compost all over the lawn / patio whilst looking for worms.! We've got a sweet little wren who hops about such tiny birds.

Eventually got back to the ironing seem to take fotever to do, but I watch something on my iPad whilst doing it. Finally finished and we had a cuppa and a game of scrabble... OH won today so he's happier now!

Watched the daily briefing and then We had curry from left over lamb joint and I made sag aloo and nan bread.

Relax in front of tv.

That's it for today.

Stay well and healthy all

Our bins were emptied today too.

Well my daughter got her results today, they were negative which is a relief.  Means we can go out but also means I'm back to work which is both good and bad at the same time.

What's apped my cousin in Romania.  She was on an extened trip tot he UK when lockdown happened.  Her delay was delayed and now she's in quarantine in a hotel near the airport before they can return home.  She has 4 sleeps left but would like to make it clear she is not counting.

Told my mum off because not only did she go out but she let people carry her shopping home.  This is despite me setting her up with the delivery services available.

Had a zoom meeting related to possible future ventures which I won't go into because I'm superstitious and don't want to jinx it.  The cat decided to get involved  in this by walking across the laptop.

Made pasta for dinner today and my older daughter made peanut butter cookies.
