Title: New Ancestry layout for matches
Post by: Flemming on Friday 17 April 20 20:47 BST (UK)
Either I'm first or last to get this...

If I click on a match that ThruLines has a connection for, the first thing I see is the horizontal lineage for both of us - similar to the format I used to see if I clicked on the 'common ancestors' panel to the left of their tree (or space where a tree might be).

Beneath this is a panel on the left which has shared surnames at the top, and names just in the match's tree beneath. These used to be beneath the tree. The tree now is to the right of these.

Then there's the map of locations below, as before.

If ThruLines doesn't have a connection for the match, the format is the same as above ^^ just without the lineage at the top.

Something else to get used to!

I have just been reading about it on facebook. Apparently has just come out in beta mode, so it is going to be a good while before everyone can see it.

I've just noticed that I have green outlines around our common ancestors on a match's tree that I've not noticed before. These markings correspond to the details given in the list of common ancestors in the left box.

They seem to be doing different things for different users. At least it keeps them busy.

I quite like the new format with common ancestor being the first thing you see (if ThruLines has found one for a match). It also gives you tabs to click on different options for the connection - should be two options normally, one each for the male and female at the top of the connection. But one particular match has 20 option tabs  :o ???

Instead of faffing around with these new toys that nobody asked for I wish they would introduce a chromosome browser which some have asked for including myself to no avail. Arghh!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes and I do have all those green things and if I remember correctly have done for some time

I've not noticed them before - maybe because I knew the connection and had colour coded my common ancestor matches before they introduced them.

Ancestry is ever so ploddy.

Davidft, I do not have all of the “new toys” yet, but I am pleased with the ones I do have. Still waiting for the one that gives multiple suggestions on the path to common ancestors and for the new messaging. I got the one for linking matches to the tree a few days ago. The ability to easily link a match to a person in a tree saves a lot of time in copying info for cross-referencing. I have already seen it start to make some suggestions about links. I think it may turn out to be particularly useful for the floating branches I am working on to knock down brick walls.

What I have noticed recently, is that it seems to be harder to get rid of unwanted people in ThruLines. I don't seem to be getting the 'Does this person Match'  option anymore; which is frustrating, because I can't get rid of them!

I'm hoping that this is just a temporary glitch...

Romilly.

I think I spoke to soon and at crossed purposes. Think I should stop posting for a while and then hopefully I won't get so easily confused.

Did anyone else get this new format then lose it today? It was a big improvement, shame if it's being axed. Wish they'd stop fiddling around with things  ::)

What makes you think it is being axed? Probably just tweaking it a bit as they get feedback during rollout. Not everyone has it yet.

Just said it would be a shame if they axe it. Right now, I'd be happy with simply getting on the site.

Just resurrecting this post to ask if anyone else has the new format. A friend who had the new format has kept theirs, whereas mine went and hasn't come back, still on the old format.

I wish I could get back to the old format!

I don’t like the new one at all...

Just resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone has the new layout where you get multiple options for potential common ancestors. I've got a few matches where common ancestors have gone down the wrong route and a few alternatives would be nice to see. I had the new layout for a while, then it went and hasn't come back, although someone else I know still has it.

I don't think I've ever had that option. Although it would be handy. I've got quite a few that are way out with their trees. I've told a couple about the mistakes and they said 'Oh yes, I know, I've got it correct on my computer'  ::)

Unsure what the new version you are talking about is. Last one I got was when on your matches screen, the notes now are on a line at the bottom of each match, if there are notes, starting at the left, under your profile picture. At the right, on the same line you see any colour coded groups, and  you can edit your groups from here, you dont need to go to the individual match screen to do so.  Flemming, are you talking an update that came after the above?? From the chat beloe, I suspect it is additional, and if that is the case, well I dont have it!!! ??? >:( ;)

This was back in April last year. They changed the layout so that, when you open a match, you have tabs across the top of their tree. Each tab has a different option for common ancestors. I presume it was drawing on multiple alternatives rather than just the one that features in most trees (and we know that quantity doesn't always mean accuracy with Ancestry trees).

Ah Flemming, you will know I didnt notice that this message was a year old! Thought it was last month!  Cant say I have ever seen this option mind you!

Gosh, this thread is two years old now. Just resurrecting it to see if anyone else has the multiple options for common ancestors. I still haven't got it back and it came to mind over the weekend when three matches came through with common ancestors then disappeared again 24 hours later - someone probably tinkering with their tree. It would be so useful to have multiple options, especially where the majority of trees have taken a wrong turn (e.g. with someone who apparently moved to North America in the 1850s when they're still in UK censuses after that).
