Title: Salisbury burial - BURROUGH
Post by: bitzar on Saturday 02 May 20 03:10 BST (UK)
Hi all

I'm looking for some assistance with the burial of my x4 gr grandmother Elizabeth BURROUGH.  Granny died 14 Jan 1885 at the Bricket's Alms house in Exeter St, Salisbury aged 75.

In finding her burial I hope to find the burial of her husband Thomas BURROUGH.  I THINK Thomas died in Salisbury in 1858 but I'm not sure.  I cant locate Thomas (a blacksmith) on the 1858 census, he isn't in the same household as Elizabeth and family, and she states she is married.  The 1861 states she is a widow.

Any idea's...

I can't find Thomas in 1851 either but a blacksmith can travel for work.

Thomas Burrow of Shrewton married Elizabeth Chandler 22 January 1827 at Orcheston St George.
Notes Banns also recorded at Shrewton where Thomas has resided for 9 weeks.
Witness Alexander Sanders and James Chandler.

Thankyou.  After doing a bit more work today I was just going to add that I think most likely the burial would be St Martin as a number of her children are buried there.  Any sign of Thomas buried there in 1858?  There were of St Ann Street.

I hadn't seen the full record so thank you.  I wouldn't of thought that residing in a place for 9 weeks makes you 'of' that place, maybe a sojourner... interesting!  I actually don't know where he was from because I cant find him on the 1851.  The James Chandler I was suggest was Elizabeth's brother, older by 5 years.

Many thanks

I can't see a burial for Thomas at any time in Salisbury.  I can't see a possible death on freebmd either

I've gone through them all too from 1841 - 1861, nothing fits.  Could be a name typo or he died who knows where.  Thanks for checking.

There is a death in Wilton district which is near to Salisbury in Mar 1857 for a Thomas Burrows.

Do you know roughly when yours was born?  This one is age 56.

I have Burroughs in my family so know different spellings can crop up to make it tricky.

Thanks for replying, I got excited!  I just had a look at him, it seems he was buried at Broad Chalk as Thomas Borrough and was of 'Wilton Workhouse'.  The 1851 has a Thomas Burrough, a Carpenter,  at Broad Chalk, born at Broad Chalk, with a wife.  The age is quite a bit out though, he was born c1810.
