Title: hungarian or Yugoslavian immigrant 1852
Post by: melaniejane91 on Friday 08 May 20 13:11 BST (UK)
I am trying to find more information on my grandmothers great grandfather, Albert Vincent BALZARY. apparently he was born in either Yugoslavia or Hungary on the 12th of june 1814 and died in Dunolly, Vic on the 3rd of July 1865 (51years). I have found various information that he was a miner and arrived at portland in 1953. I have not though seen any documentation to support this.
I am wondering if anybody knows on any leads on how he may have got here? I have searched assisted and non assisted immigrants with no luck.

I'm not clear why you have started this new topic.

In your original one

you have his place and date of birth in "Slovakia/Hungary".  The name "Yugoslavia" was not invented until about 1920 and has no connection with Slovakia.

Good luck with your search for more information.

That previous post is not mine.

I was hoping for some new leads, if I could find what ship he came on, there might be more leads to new information..

I'm wondering if maybe he was born there but his parent/s was just travelling there? as his first two names do not sound like they would come from hungary..

was it common for hungarians to come over for the gold rush? and if so where did they set sail?

I put his details into a family search and it came up of his birth place to be Kamenitz, Novi Sad, South Bačka, Serbia, Yugoslavia. I'm unsure where that information has come from as I am new to that site.
