I am so glad you are feeling much better now Roobarb. :) Weather is awful today, will you be still having your walk?
CD - it was a great programme. I have just been thinking it is a shame I didn't ask my parents what they had done on the original VE day. They have now passed on so too late to ask. From memories of what Dad told me I think he may have still been in Italy. Shame we often leave things too late to ask. ::)
Diary:
I am starting diary early as I am en route to work on bus and won't finish until late tonight. Like most, I expect, I am looking forward in anticipation to what Boris will have to say tonight.

Had a long lie this morning, didn't get up until 730 then had a lazy breakfast. Beef brisket is now in the slowcooker for tonight's dinner. Maybe have more to report later

Managed a little walk this morning before the rain set in this afternoon but it was chilly out. Dark indoors so the lights are on.
Finalised Asda shopping to collect on Tuesday and ordered a couple of items from ebay which after weeks of playing up has thankfully started working smoothly again.
Boris will be getting a lot of viewers tonight. I wonder if there will be the usual question and answer session afterwards. Some of the questions are :o like the person who said he lives so many miles from Edinburgh and so many miles from London in the North East but was confused about whether to follow guidance from Scotland or England :-X

Another horrid day, my mother had to go into hospital on Thursday, (not the virus) I can't visit and it's driving me crazy wondering how she's coping, she can't use a phone or anything and will be confused as to why she's there so must be feeling abandoned by her family.

Very sorry to hear about your mother Sinann, it must be very distressing for her and for you too. Have the nurses given you any information or reassurance? I hope she's soon better.
Thanks River Tyne Lass. Yes, I did have my walk today, I couldn't be bothered doing anything this morning so it was midday by the time I went out, the rain had stopped by then. Couldn't believe how much the weather had changed, summer yesterday and back to winter today. Hadn't long set out when I was wishing I'd worn my gloves, brrr! It was quite windy and the wind was perishing, coming from the north and the same forecast tomorrow. The upside of it was that there weren't so many people around, had a longer walk through the woods.
Home for lunch and decided to do some domestic stuff as it's not garden weather. Did some cleaning then got the ironing board out and put Gardeners' World on while I was ironing. My friend who has been doing my shopping rang to say that she's had a headache since yesterday and might have a temperature so she won't be going out for a while in case it's the virus. She wanted to check that I'm okay for groceries which I am. I think it's very unlikely she has it, she hasn't been in anyone's company for more than 15 minutes or anywhere near that and is absolutely scrupulous about hygiene and sticking by the rules. She said she feels okay otherwise, I hope she's is, she has been so good to me. Phoned a friend whose birthday it is, she's rather fed up.
Had tea and watched the Prime Minister, I don't usually watch the broadcasts but this one was expected to be significant. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what he said, I must say there was a lot of waffle at first about nothing much but I read what he was saying as people who can't work from home such as construction and factory workers could go back to work. Also that people could spend more time outdoors exercising, sunbathing, playing games but only with members of their own household. And if the rate of infection goes up then we would revert to the lockdown as it is now. That's what I understood from it.
Just managed to get a supermarket delivery slot for a couple of weeks ahead, just bunged some things in the trolley to reach the minimum spend (including a couple of bottles of wine!) and will alter it nearer the time to what I actually need then.
Looks like being another indoor day tomorrow, hope I feel a bit more motivated than I did this morning.

My thoughts are with you too Sinann and hope that you Mum us doing ok... it must be very worrying for you not being able to get in and see her, a friend of ours who's FiL aged 102 had a bad fall and broke his pelvis has had an operation today to fix it and has fortunately come through ok... but they're not able to visit him either...
Today's diary
Well my goodness what a difference a day makes!!! Woke up to dull grey and threatening skies....
Usual breakfast... no shorts and t shirt and all the windows open today!
Read the Sunday papers...
Had messages going around re collection of scrubs I've made and more fabric so meeting in the village hall car park in the next village tomorrow a/ noon for exchange!
Did some tidying up, got the ironing done whilst listening to the end of desert island discs...
Lunch usual sandwich... watched the news
Decided to go and cut out some more scrubs, 2 more pairs of trousers and 2 more complete sets all ready to sew up tomorrow...
Had a Zoom with daughter and boys, lovely to see them as not spoken to them since last w/end. Boys very chatty which was lovely... they've discovered how to put different backgrounds up, so we had a beach in Barbados, the aurora borealis, close up of grass and the planets! Eldest one took the computer up to his bedroom to show us his new bed with a draw under it and how they'd changed his room round, he then sat and chatted to us before showing us daddy putting up shelves in youngests bedroom!
Daughter looking tired and bit frazzled this week not her usual bubbly self... shed got a nasty mosquito bite on her thigh from their bike ride yesterday through the bluebell woods and the anti histamine tablets were making her feel bit drowsy. She needs to moniter it to make sure it doesn't get any worse.
Time to start dinner we had nice joint of beef with all the trimmings, it was like being back in winter, very windy quite few branches come off next doors walnut tree that in the front garden.
Watched Boris... and I agree with you Roobarb I made the same conclusions as you... it's all a bit airy fairy though and I think people are going to be more confused than before... will have to see what he says in parliament tomorrow.
Watched tv, did some knitting. Bed to read...
Same as every other day really... can't see us getting to see the family for sometime which saddens me but something we have to accept for now...

Sending messages of a 'speedy recovery' to those who are ill or in hospital. Such a worrying time...
Star date entry Sunday...(sorry it feels like blinking Star Trek at times! ::) I woke up to amazing sunshine, sadly it didn't last long and by the time I got out of bed it was like winter again! Last night was the most tremendous rainfall. We certainly needed the rain, but the ferocity really took its toll in the park. The park is on a little hill and you could see the rivulets of water had pushed quite a bit of soil down towards the bottom of the hill. The lovely horse chestnut 'florets' which were so stunning the other day had shattered and were on the pathway. A few brave souls in the park, quite a few were flying kites! They looked like they were having a great time. I did the usual route and headed home. I don't usually do a park walk on a Sunday but I thought the weather may deteriorate.
It really was a waste of a day for me. I did nothing productive. Phoned my Auntie to see how she enjoyed the VE day celebrations on telly, and heard her VE Day story. Spent sometime on line, Facebook etc.
Got dinner partially sorted and we went on our now usual Sunday family walk. A really nice one - and we were able for half of it to avoid others out for their daily walk. Part of the walk was along the canal. The problem being there are so many cyclists. This is a 'pre-covid' bug bear. You are prohibited from cycling along the towpath however for some reason no-one pays any attention to the signs! I resent the 'ring/ring' of a bicycle bell haring down upon me! Anyway, a good walk which I think we'll do again.
When we got back I finished up making the tea - a nice lamb joint, jersey royals, cauli cheese + veg. A very, very large glass of wine ready for Boris!
Well his measures are a start - but personally I'd like him to get his act together and get some antibody testing in place and ramp up the testing. I think far more people have actually had this virus then we know. I think people would feel more satisfied it was safe to travel to work (however that might be!), send their children back to school, etc and we might actually begin to visit with loved ones again. We really can't all sit at home until a vaccine is in place. :-X
Anyway, slightly depressed I'll sign off.
