Hi can anyone assist me please, over the years I have used Family Tree Maker 2012 I have made a copy on a USB, thankful that I did as the Pc crashed,
I have tried to load the disc but I now find windows 10 will not support the disc and does not recognise it
Can anyone recommend a free download that will read my USB please frustrated

Try RootsMagic on a COPY of your ftw file (don't want to risk damaging what you have). Rootsmagic is available as a download and there's a free version. If it won't open the file there are lots of helpful people on here who can probably convert it for you.

Do you mean that the CD will not read in your the drive of your fresh PC? Is there an error message?
Sometimes Windows mentions that certain software is known to cause problems. It has a list of things where there ought to be a newer version.
If it announces something of the "disk read error" type or a weird one mentioning "inpage", then the disk may be damaged.
If so, it is worth trying to clean the disk. Place it label side down on a clean flat surface. A tea towel on a table is ideal, as it makes sure that the label side does not suffer - that is where the data actually sits, just under the label. If there are obvious scratches on the "plain" side, it is possible to polish them out, but it is not an easy job.
Moisten a tissue and apply a dab of washing-up liquid to it. Wash the "plain" side of the disk with this. Wipe the detergent off and let the disk dry. Use a dry tissue if you are in a hurry.
Then have another try at the install.
I have known people label their CDs by writing on the label with a ballpoint pen. That is an almost perfect way of destroying them, as the tip crushes the part where the data is stored.

I have been let to believe it is not compatible with Windows 10, one reason why I am continuing on with Windows 7, I have the same programme, a lot older than yours Broadway, I am loath to buy a new prog that I might struggle to understand now FTM was so easy to use

Thank you for the replies
as from 28/4 2020 windows 10 will not support FTM2012 I dont know why, I had a problem with the PC and after reloading most of my programmes and trying to load FTM 2012 it says it is invalid
I cannot see why possibility is Microsoft has blocked it for some reason
Will try and persevere thank you all stay safe

I have just found that since 28/4/2020 Family tree 2012 owned by ancestry has sold the site and the new owners of this site does not support or recognise these discs ,
I think I will look at another system as suggested , thank you all again stay safe

Oh, bother, I don't really want to start up another programme at my age, makes me wish I had done that a long time ago

Hi I have now resolved this matter by resetting the PC everything now is back to normal for time being whatever normal is thank you for all the advice and assistance
