Thanks everyone for this fantastic information. Is it possible to find a death entry for Thomas.? I believe a certificate would show his parents in Scotland . Trying to identify his mother ( maiden name )

. . .
Believe it or not, they are 2 marriages
Thomas Howie to Janet Cadzow, 21/05/1847, Lesmahagow
Thomas Howie to Janet Cadzow, 15/06/1847, Cadder
These are probably the dates that the 'Proclamation to Marry' was made/recorded in their respective parishes rather than date of marriage.
Scottish marriages usually took place in the bride's home and the Church authories were more concerned with recording that the proper procedure was adhered to and the actual marriage date was often unrecorded.
One would need to view the OPRs on ScotlandsPeople to see exactly what was written in the registers.
