I am searching for the service number of a great aunt, Mary Harrison b1912 Sheffield she was living with her parents in 1939 in Sheffield ,I have a photo of her in uniform ,after that I cannot find anything else about her ,I have had help off someone else ,but until i can find her service number I am stumped can anyone help please
Thank you
Chris

If you are applying for a copy of her service record you do not need her service number; a date of birth can be used.
-
Thank you Nanny Jan for your reply ,I am trying to find out what happened to her after 1939, her being in the ATS is the only clue I have
Regards
Chris

The record will show when her service finished; not sure if they have details like new address as I have only seen records for those died during the war.

Hi Nanny Jan
I thought if I could get her service number I could possibly trace her where abouts after 1939 onwards
she is proving to be a very big brick wall also it is very frustrating i have been told she didnt marry, and there isnt anyone who i can ask
Thank you for your reply

If she was only in the ATS for the period of the war then it is possible that any discharge address would be her parents. Have you looked at her parents address on electoral registers after the war.
I am not sure how her service number would help you find her after 1939 other than in her ATS records

Did her father leave a Will? It might mention her with an address.

Do you have the full Will or have you looked at the Probate Calendar?
-
I dont have the full will I looked at the information on ancestry he left justover £500 to his wife Alice
Thanks for your reply

Chris

The information on Ancestry is from the Probate Calendar and just shows who was granted Probate, not how his assets were distributed.
Copies of Wills cost £1.50 and are available to download a week or so after ordering.

Oh not what you wanted but sometimes you have to explore all possibilities.....if only to end up discounting them.
-
At least the wills are only £1.50 at the moment, they used to be £10. :)
