Title: Royal Marines 1950's
Post by: odbsmith on Monday 01 June 20 21:50 BST (UK)
Can anyone offer any advice ref researching Royal Marines in 1950's?
My Aunts first husband was in the RM, may have been in the RM band.
I know they were in Ghana and Cyprus.

For detail you will need his service record which will still be held by the Ministry of Defence. the application process is here:

You will need a death certificate and Date of Birth or Service No.
If your aunt is still alive, and applies, I think there is no charge (as the deceased soldier's spouse).
Otherwise a fee of £30 applies.

Thanks MaxD, I did think of that. Their relationship was complicated, my Aunt died a few years ago. Her first husband took his own life and my aunt remarried.
The few facts I know are they lived in Cyprus and Ghana (the Gold Coast as it was called then). They married in 1950 and I knew little of him and was not  encouraged to ask!!
