Title: Looking for Death record of Mary Quinlan Flynn
Post by: Debbie Colson-McCarthy on Thursday 04 June 20 03:53 BST (UK)
Hi all,
I am looking for the death record of Mary Quinlan Flynn (born around 1840), my 2x great grandmother who died somewhere between 1867 (the birth of her last son) and 1870 when her husband remarried. I have looked on "Find a Grave", family search and ancestry.com. We are thinking she died in Elizabeth, NJ. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
thank-you,
Debbie

I know:
She and Michael Flynn(born 1837) married in 1862 (I have documentation) in Bolton, England.

Son John (born 1865) and daughter Margaret (born 1863 or 1864) migrated without Michael from England in 1866 on the ship Edinburgh from England to NYC June 11, 1866.

Son William was born around 1867.

1870 Census Mary is *not* listed with Michael only and the 3 children. He is listed in Elizabeth, NJ.

Michael remarries May 1, 1870 in Elizabeth NJ. to Johanna (Annie) Bolan.

She doesn't appear in the mortality schedule for deaths in the 12 months prior to the 1870 census, so she likely died before that.

Thank-you Eileen. I am actually going to search the records now. I was told to look at Flinn or even Flein for a different variation. I can't think of a different variation for the name Mary though.

I wasn't very clear.  The 1870 Census had another page -- a mortality schedule listing people who had died in the 12 months prior.

Eileen, I looked 12 months prior and did not find anything. Thank-you.

What eileenwilson is referring to is not the death index database mentioned above, but the mortality schedule, which is an entirely separate thing.  In certain census years, people were asked about people in their household who had died in the last 12 months.  These sites give more detail about what the mortality schedule is and what can be found on there:
