Title: William Hammond 1914-1953
Post by: radstockjeff on Saturday 06 June 20 17:53 BST (UK)
Has anyone any information about William Hammond who wrote the tune (Hammond) for the song/hymn In the Love of Jesus (words by Col Mrs Ivy Mawby.Salvation Army)
Just looking for some background to help in a small project I am currently working on.
Thanks

Have you found him on the 1939 register

There is a remarkable lack of info about him online apart from the mention of the hymn

If he died in Derbyshire in 1953 he was William F Hammond

Birth on freebmd in 1914 Lambeth - mmn Edwards

Probate entry showing administration was granted to his widow Jean

If it’s the right person - he married Jean Gilliver in 1946.  Probably the entry in Notts on the 1939 register

Think it might well be the right one.  Found a reference via Google to a CD with that hymn on it by the Derby Singers.  1999 release but the conductor was surname Hammond (not William)

I'm curious to know how you have William's birth and death years and yet you don't know anything about him.

What links William the composer of tunes to those dates?

Is he definitely British born?
