Hello
Is there access to the following to find out if a family of Banfield's lived on Park Way, Southwick or another resource?
Southwick electoral register 1970's 1980's
Thanks
John

Good Morning,
Earlier this year I went through the electoral registers of Southwick looking for someone - but had to go to the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester to do so - I don’t think it’s possible online. What about phone books - might be on Ancestry? (I’ve just looked and can’t see them in there.)
Mum’s cousin lived just round the corner from Park Way but unfortunately she died last year - she knew “everyone” in Southwick having lived there almost 100 years! A quick phone call would have answered this easily! (Mum left in the 60’s so I doubt she’d know but I’ll ask her later.)

jonw65 - I have been going through the probate records for anyone who died in Southwick around the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's to see if I could find one with that address - but nothing so far - one ref that could be relevant in the London Gazette of someone who died in a Southwick Nursing home in 2014.
I agree those Worthing deaths could be relevant but the first doesn't seem to have left a will and the second is too late for there to be an address - annoying!
John - do you have any first names of people (not living) who might have lived there?

jonw95 - I've just read your first reply - sorry!
Yes - that 2014 death is the one in the London Gazette - but who is C J Banfield - should I have heard of him ::) ;D ?
There are Banfields in Park Way in 1939. Sorry - they are in Park Lane - but there is a family in The Crescent which is next to Park Way.

Hi Liz
C J Banfield is in the phone books at 2b Parkway
I only have the full names of C J and his wife from their daughter Diane, who also lived at 2b Park Way.
CJ Banfield was only listed at that address in the 80's phone books. As we know, we cannot infer too much from that (i.e. how long he/they had been there)
So we can say there is a connection.
There may of course have been another Banfield family there that hasn't showed up.
The 1939 family could be followed up?

Ahh - I see - I have completely failed with my Ancestry searches this morning on my iPad as it refused to recognise Southwick (better not tell Mum ::)) even exists - I have now moved to my computer - luckily although Southwick doesn't exist (odd) I can get around it more easily.
I think the only way to be sure might end up being the electoral registers which contrary to popular belief really are in WSRO.
Mum's cousin would have known - she was an expert in the history of Southwick and loved writing about it. Although I have Banfields in my tree they lived in Ditchling, Shermanbury and villages around here.

Hi Liz
Sorry to hear about your cousin. Great that she wrote down some of her local knowledge.
Nothing in planning applications :-\
Nor cemeteries (if they were buried, possibly not, and it may be the wrong places online anyway)
CJ Banfield family not terribly young, of course we don't know anything about the family johnt96 is searching for.

Thanks JonW65 and Liz, really appreciate your help, there is quite a lot to sift through. ;)
They are the Banfield's I am looking for and 2B Parkway looks right.
The Banfields in my tree originate from Woodmancote (as for as I've got back to James Banfield B 1815)
Thanks again

;D My Banfields were in Woodmancote ... Henfield, Shermanbury - all along the same road - they spread out a bit - also Hurst, Ditchling, Westmeston - all over the place! I don't have your James in my tree - I do have a James b1793 in Hurst, who was from Twineham, married in Shermanbury in 1815 and then lived in Woodmancote for the rest of his life!
Liz
PS I asked Mum if she remembered any families from Park Way - she immediately named a couple but didn't remember any Banfields.
-
Yes, It's a long time since I had a good look at the Banfields, remember there were a lot of them and looked confusing who was who? as many had same names in different families and were down as lodging sometimes.
I have that James b 1793 married to Lydia Glassbrook and having James b 1815 as son along with Elizabeth b 1818, Mary 1818, Henry 1824, Rebecca 1827, William 1830, John 1832, Thomas 1836.
You've obviously done a lot of work on the Banfields, is the tree information available on any of the ancestry sites to view, would love to have a look and check against mine.
Thanks again.

Good Morning (well it is - but summer has left Sussex which is a bit sad!),
I am descended from Lydia's brother Luke Glazebrook (so many ways they spelled their name!) who was born in 1800 and who married Mary Banfield - these family relationships were very convoluted! I do have a tree on Ancestry but it is not very detailed, has no sources and isn't updated often - my main one is offline. I tend not to put siblings etc on it unless I am actively looking at a DNA match. Here's the link https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/80216726/family?cfpid=42416481596 (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/80216726/family?cfpid=42416481596) Hope that works...
