Title: ARTHUR
Post by: garthur on Tuesday 23 August 05 22:44 BST (UK)
Can anyone help with the folowing: ARTHUR, Arthur (born 1826) Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn.
ARTHUR, Mary Ann (born 1827) Llanllwchaiam.

Emigrated to SYDNEY N.S.W on Steadfast in 1849.

We are trying to trace my husband's family but have very little to go on at the present time.  His grandfather was a Thomas Sydney Arthur purportedly born 1892 in Brisbane and a Merchant Seaman.  Died 1936.  We think his father was Sydney Alexander Arthur but can find absolutely no records of him!!
Thanks
Glenys Arthur

Hi Glenys,
I have looked at the 1841 census for Llanfihangel Croyddin and Llanllwchaiarn and could not find the surname Arthur.   The census is not indexed and the writing is sometimes indistinct so my search is not 100%.
Do you have any more information to go on, if so I can try again, perhaps in a different parish.   As you can appreciate, it does take some time to search without an index.
Cheers Dave

I don't have any other info - it was just a shot in the dark.  The plot thickens.  The name Sydney Alexander Arthur was incorrect - it's actually Alexander Thomas (Thompson) Arthur!  Thank you for your help, though, it is much appreciated!
