Title: William Reid and Jean (Murray)
Post by: tomba on Saturday 13 June 20 09:43 BST (UK)
Hi
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me with information on William Reid And Jean Murray from Muckhart Perth.
I have been able to find there marriage William Reid married 1st January 1808 at Muckhart, Perth, Scotland to Jean Murray FHL Film Number 1040131
There children as far as I can find are John b 1808, Isabella b1810, Andrew b1811 and James b1812 and possibly Peter b1823

William B abt and Jean abt 1785 I have found them
in the 1841 Census there address is given as Pitgober, Muckhart, Perthshire William Reid 57, Labourer,  Jean Reid  56, Isabella Reid 28, James Reid 26, & Peter Reid 18

in the 1851 Census the family is still at Pitgober Wm Reid 70, a labourer, & Jane Reid 68, Isabella Reid 39 there is also a Catrine Reid age 15 listed here??

in the 1861 census Jean is found living with her son Peter at Stirlingshire Green Sq, Sterlingshire.
peter a Boot & Shoe Maker Employing 4 Men I have been unable to find William so I presume he died between 1851-1861

I have been unable to confirm the deaths of William Reid and Jean (nee Murray) there are several trees on line but info seems to be confusing and no evidence hence I have not been able to find the ancestors of either of these people

there son Andrew came to Australia and John went to America. I have very little information on the family in Scotland so if anyone can help it would be great
Thanks

Hi ,

Given what you have already , have you looked at this death on Scotlandspeople ?
Jane Reid(other surname Murray) , 1865 , age 83 , Tillicoultry Clackmannan , mother's maiden surname Hardie.

Maybe try just Jane Reid , death 1865 , Clackmannan , that should give one result.

Just spotted this-
Jean Murray , birth/baptism 28th Jan. 1781 , Muckhart Perth , parents Andrew Murray/Isabell Hardie.
Might connect  :-\

I've tried just Jean Reid but not getting anything in Clackmannan for that time have left Clackmannan out just did all  got 4 results nothing that matched
and I did see the birth record but wasn't sure who the parents were
I must be doing something wrong

Try JANE not Jean , it's often interchangeable when searching.

Not sure about William's death possibly before 1855 which doesn't help much.

Can't see any Reids on the Valuation Rolls at Pitgob*r Muckhart in 1855(SP).
There wouldn't be if they were tenants and the rateable value was low - can't remember the exact figure but in the early years all houses rated at less than £x were lumped together under the name of the proprietor.

Thanks Forfarian , I didn't know that.

For the early years after 1854, there is little detail about properties rented at under 4 pounds annually unless they were on long leases.
