Title: Does anyone know of any current Ancestry special offers?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any current special offers, as the only subs I can find are expensive - £69.99 for 6 months UK/Ireland or £99.99 for 6 months worldwide sub :o. I should say I tried the link in a previous post in the Common Room -

previously the half price offer only worked if the sub had expired, it used to say it was for 'new subscribers' only.
So in that case, you need to wait until yours has ended.

You need to cancel your Ancestry membership pronto so that it doesn't auto renew. Then wait for it to expire, then join again using the discount code. Your preferences, submitted trees etc will be preserved.

As a member of my local library, I can now get free access to Ancestry, so plan to take advantage of that. Certainly looks as if lockdown 2 is coming here in uk.

I live in Dorset, and the free link has been in place now through the “libraries west” site during both lockdowns (and the brief period between).

I cancel my subscription so it just runs out; (under my account my status shows as guest membership or some such).
I then click on the link and bingo.. it now shows active worldwide membership.

Cant wait for Ancestry to get the 1921 census online, by which time I hope FindMyPast will have ironed out all the transcription errors!

Hello John, yes you wait until your date is up and then you’ll be able to renew with Sandra’s link.

One found it didn't work using Chrome as a browser but worked straight away when they used Edge, so it's worth trying different browsers. Try different hardware - I couldn't get it on my laptop but it worked on my phone. Double check you are showing as guest. Log out and in again.

It is a little more expensive to order via Amazon for multiple kits as it is £69 per kit instead of £59, ordering via the Ancestry website, you get charged £9.95 P&P for the first kit, then £4.95 for each extra kit I think, so that might have saved you about £10 :-[. The deal to get the Worldwide subscription would only be via the Ancestry site.

It doesn't Sloe, I think I usually just go through a dummy run order to remind myself usually. The costs for standard delivery (about 5 working days?) are as I stated above, express delivery (1-2 days) I think is £20 for one kit, not sure how much extra per kit :o.

Post by: Biggles50 on Sunday 10 July 22 11:10 BST (UK): On the 6th July I sync’d all our Trees into our Roots Magic software on our PC and backed up the Roots Magic files.

Our Ancestry membership then expired on the 8th.

We did not log in to Ancestry on either the 8th or 9th.

Sunday the 10th I clicked on the link, making sure the link was for the £89.99 worldwide membership for 12 months (one of the links is ONLY for 6 months membership).

The 12 months link worked and we are back up and running with Ancestry for another 12 months and a diary noted in 50 weeks time to uncheck Auto Renewal.

Checked that £89.99 had been charged to my Credit Card and it had so I am sort of a happy bunny.

I say sort of happy bunny because its my Wifes account yet I am paying for the subscription, I’ll have to figure out if it has been me who has been paying for years.

However, people are being offered 50% off the Worldwide subscription if they call Ancestry Support and ask if there are any deals as they have been a long standing member and can’t afford full price. That is a good deal as it means you get Worldwide for about the same amount you’d pay for the basic package. If the person you speak to can’t help, wait a day or so and try again and hope you get someone different!

This does seem to work for most people, especially those who have had a subscription for years. We had a person in the FaceBook group where I’m an Admin, who managed to get the UK subscription from Australia by calling via WhatsApp.

I realise of course that exchange rates vary, but at the moment for example, the full price in Australia is $249.99 AUD for 6 months (about £141 today), which is considerably more than the full price in the UK of £99.99. :-\

My membership (All Access) was due to renew March 25 for $409. The alleged sale would give me a six month for $181. Then in six months the price would go back to the normal price of $259.

I was talking to an Ancestry Rep about entering a new source. I would have liked to enter my work on to Ancestry in the same way I enter it to Roots Magic 9: Create a Master Source and then just keep reusing it. Easy Peasey. But...no. You can't DO that on Ancestry. She said "Ancestry and Roots Magic are affiliated." And I said that Ancestry should follow the lead of Roots Magic. She wanted to know where I found the source on Ancestry. I explained that I found the source the old fashioned way.

I bought the book and read it and had facts from that book that I wanted to enter into the Ancestry database properly. I wanted to cite my source. Enter name of book, author, who published it when and where...I want to give back because I really appreciate the people before me who did ao much research the hard way.

And boy, do I digress! When she mentioned the sale I pointed out that sale would cost me $440 for the next year as opposed to $409. Then I asked if Ancestry offered any discounts. She put me on hold, came back and said 30% off if I renewed right then. So I renewed right then 10 days early for Just under $328.

From memory I knew I wanted to progress further back with my Munford family. in Norfolk I got a shock when I saw just how many there were with the same names living more or less in the same villages and mostly with similar dates of births ;D

I have decided to keep the TV on 24/7 and watch anything that catches my attention. I shall not e visiting local pubs, especially the one that plans not to celebrate the coronation.

I don't think the auto renewal has a switch off option

For past few years I've just remembered to cancel in time but I was moving flats & not very well so it was 1 of the "jobs " that fell by the wayside.

I've done without subs this week . Didn't even use Ancestry on visit to family history society

I haven't seen reimbursement in bank statement yet . When I do I may go for British 6 months offer or half price one as I still need to save money.

It is a process which ends with a confirmation eMail being sent, no eMail its not been cancelled correctly.

I don't know the answer to your question, but a strange, large button appeared in my screen header a couple of days ago, and it is still there.

When I click on it, it offers me the opportunity to take out a subscription to view UK-only records for £10.99 a month.

I am only 4 months into a 12-month worldwide subscription, so that message makes no sense at all to me.

I've assumed it is some sort of mistake, and maybe the button will disappear!

Best to Ancestry Subscription expire, leave it a couple of days and then try the link.

Do of course Turn Off Auto Renewal, it is quite a convoluted process and it is not turned off until you receive a confirming eMail.

I have both Roots Magic and Family Tree Maker on my computer and always ensure both are tree sync’d with the Ancestry trees before the subscription expires.

The offer seems to suggest 'Premium' membership for £59.99 for a year but the normal Ancestry subscription page doesn't use the word Premium. It just offers the following three:

UK Records Only
All UK and Ireland records on Ancestry
All records on Ancestry

Which of those is 'Premium'?

Also, would Premium include free access to the Fold3 records? If not, can anyone tell me how much more that would cost, over and above the £59.99?

The UK Essentials membership includes access to UK census records and to the indexes of civil registrations of birth, marriage, and death records. A small number of parish records are included, but most parish records are available only with the UK Premium membership or UK Worldwide membership. No access to fold 3 with these memberships.

Have had a little trouble over renewing my sub with Ancestry.

As of today they have offered me £89.99 for UK renewal not £59.99. the only other offer at present is £50.99 DNA.

Getting very annoyed with Ancestry, but do use and enjoy the site a lot so have now renewed at £89.99. Have made a saving but not as much expected.

Sandra please keep posting your offer notices, I NEVER receive any emails from Ancestry -long story, so without you would end up paying full price.
