Title: Ancestry.com oddity
Post by: dicko99 on Thursday 18 June 20 23:59 BST (UK)
A while back I found my paternal cousin via Ancestry DNA testing. We share 946cM in 41 segments.

Her paternal Aunt is also on Ancestry and shares 1946cM with her.

The oddity is someone who shares 60cM over 4 segments with my cousin but nothing with me or her Aunt. Ancestry also shows no shared matches between my cousin and the oddity.

This seems odd to me hence this post but is it unexpected?

R.

I'm sure there's more to the story that I've gleaned from what you've written, but DNA comes from two parents so about half her matches will come from your side and half from the other side?

When I think about my own cousins, one parent is a blood relative to me, the other is completely unrelated.

This is something that can happen.

My sister and I have both been tested so naturally match at 2597cM. We share most of our stronger matches but there's someone who matches to her at 140cM but doesn't match to me.

It's just the roll of the genetic dice.
