Title: Covid-19 exposure notifications - Google Apple
Post by: sugarfizzle on Saturday 20 June 20 07:21 BST (UK)
I see Google has added 'Covid-19 exposure notifications' to phones and tablets, presumably since the announcement was made the other day that the government would be switching to a Google/Apple tracking method. I hadn't noticed it before then, but it's not somewhere I would usually look.

Settings>Google>Covid-19 exposure notifications

Will need a tracking app, not available as yet, also both location and Bluetooth to be turned on, to work.

If and when an app becomes available I will download it - how many of us will do the same?

Regards Margaret

P.s. Can anybody correct my typo in the poll??

Thanks for that, Margaret, I just checked & it's there - but how would I have known ???  - I suppose if/when a suitable reliable app becomes available my phone will probably tell me. I'll definitely download it.

I confess my heart sank when the UK government announced our app was being developed by the NHS - their track record on IT is appalling. I attended a local NHS clinic & the nurse said 'let's have a look at your recent blood test results - oh no, your surgery isn't part of the network, I can't access their information.' What?!

No surprise it's turned out unfit for purpose - but what a waste of time - &  more delays in saving lives.

Good job we have sharp-eyed Rootschatters on the case!

May I correct an error?

The NHS Covid-19 contact tracking app (as used on IOW) was developed by the Pivotal division of American software company VMware.

It was commissioned by NHSX.
NHSX is a United Kingdom Government unit with responsibility for setting national policy and developing best practice for National Health Service (NHS) technology, digital and data, including data sharing and transparency.

So, it's the result of a private company spending lots of NHS money, to develop something that doesn't work!

Your answer, should you choose to vote, would be 'Yes, I would download Covid-19 tracking app if one becomes available?', because it is available already and you gave downloaded it in your country.

We are way ahead of Australia in numbers, but how effectively does the app seem to be working in Australia?

Your phone won't tell you. The government or some other agency will presumably announce when the app is available, and start promoting it. It will be up to individuals whether to download the app or not.
