Edith May Eltham was born in Wantage on 19 June 1908. She married Raymond Taylor in 1931 in Headington district. In 1939 Edith and Raymond were living in Oxford. There are two redacted entries on same schedule, which I believe are their first two children born 1932 and 1934. There is a further Taylor child with Eltham as mmn born in 1946, which I believe is theirs and would fit with Raymond being away during WW2.
Raymond died in 1970 in Oxford, but I haven't been able to find Edith's death.
I had assumed that if she died before Raymond it would be in Oxford, but if after she could have moved away, possibly to be with one her children. The 1946 child seems to have married and raised a family in Oxford, but I haven't definitely established what happened to the other two.
Then I found what might be a second marriage for Raymond in 1959, particularly because of the other bridegroom on the same page. If it is the same Raymond, either Edith May had died before 1959 or they divorced and she could have remarried.
Can anyone find Edith's death please ?

Probably need to check out his death or the possible second marriage to see if it was him.
That would say if he was a widower or divorced.
Did he leave a will that might have some clues.

Have you ruled out the Edith Mary Taylor who died in 1970 Bullingdon Oxfordshire age 63
May and Mary often get muddled up.

That was born 16 Oct 1907, so not her

The probate register says administration (with will), no mention of who took out administration. Does that mean the will was invalid if it was administration and not probate?

Have you checked out family trees that appear to have her on - private so can't view but if you contact them you might find they have something new.

Perhaps then it is Raymond's wife and some error was made? :-\

Thank you, that looks like her, same address as on Raymond's probate the year earlier.
So the 1959 marriage must be a completely different Raymond. But the other groom with that reference is the same name as one of his sons. Raymond 1959 married a lady also called Edith who had been married previously and who was born in 1920 and I think died in 2001.

R Taylor is in the Oxford phone books, 1969-71, at number X Iffley Turn, after then another Taylor is listed there :)
Perhaps that wrong year of birth for Edith was a misreading of the info on the certificate by someone at the GRO when compiling the index? :-\

Thank you, the person at the address after 1971 was the eldest son who seems to have taken over the coal merchant business as well.
I agree, I think the death cert must have been misread as to year as the day and month are correct. There is an on line tree which shows 1971 as Edith's year of death but has no source quoted. The tree only has the daughter for the couple (as her name is shown, presumably deceased) - no mention of the other two even as private.
Thank you all very much for your help, it looks like another loose end tidied up.
