Title: Tynan, Armagh
Post by: pat77 on Friday 03 July 20 17:30 BST (UK)
Hi Folks, noticed another thread re- Tynan and Barracks there. I have searched for over 30 years for a marriage for my grandfathers granda without success . I have had access to Irish resources but have never found a match but maybe he was in the forces. My grandads dad was a Thomas Wilson born 1869? His parents were Joseph Wilson and Mary Sloan. That's all I know about them except Tynan was mentioned in the distant past. Thomas came over to Glasgow to work and i have his info from here but Joseph and Mary are a huge mystery to me. Another thread of the family also from that area my gt gt gt gt granda George Fleming Born Armagh 1779 died in Monkland In Lanarkshire 1865. He was born and must of married in Armagh as his wife is also a mystery. She was born 1792 and died also in Scotland in 1857 . Father Thomas Henthorn and Mother Unknown which I have never seen. Is it possible her dad was a soldier and George's dad John Fleming? Any idea folks?. Pat

Is the marriage you are looking for Joseph Wilson to Mary Sloan?

You don't seem sure when Thomas Wilson was born- civil registration of births started in 1864. There are 11 Thomas Wilson born 1864-1869 in Ireland.

A Joseph Wilson & Mary Sloane had a son, Hans, in 1868 Newry registration district-

As to the Fleming details- civil registration of non-Catholic marriages started in 1845 (from 1864 for Catholic marriages) so there will be no civil certificates before those dates.

Aghadowey, Many thanks. Thomas was married here 19th May 1893 and died 10 March 1937, The age of 1869 is deduced from those certificates. Only one of his 6 children kept in touch with him as he wasn't very nice to know so there isn't any more paperwork available here to check. The ones you mention in Newry are the only names that seem to match. Thomas was from Northern Ireland according to his census info. I'll look into it further Thank you. Pat x
