Title: Finding matchiñg names on trees with DNA matches
Post by: brigidmac on Monday 06 July 20 13:52 BST (UK)
Several of my matches don't show up on thru lines on ancestry
Because the owner has written all the possible spellings and nicknames on the profile .

I would advise choosing one spelling + putting other variants in otherwise known as section

occasionally I change name on my tree to the alternative spelling so
That people who have put  Tom /Tommy not Thomas on their tree
Or Rose rather than Rosenberg will show up

Just a tip if you include granny ...or  nicknames in the first name box
Or 3 alternative spellings of surnames none of your matches will show up

I find so many like that  ;D. Nicknames in inverted commas between forename and surname. I can understand people including nicknames for their parents and grandparents, but some go back several generations to people they could not possibly have known. So how do they know their nickname?. Other problems are the people who give a wife her husband's surname instead of her own maiden surname.

Yes Lizzie that one is particularly annoying if they put the maiden name in the suffix box instead of the married name in the suffix box.
* Could be due to tendancy for records to state married name first then nee ...

I find less matches show up if they put the married name so I'm going to take my married name off some of my people
