Hi. I’m new here. I am looking for a George Walker born roughly 1851 in the Uk somewhere. He married a Mary Ann Pearton in Paddington 9th December 1872. I can find no record for brothers or sisters and the father is listed and Edward Walker.
Pretty new to this so any help appreciated 😊
Thank you.

Welcome to Rootschat Michelle :D
You seem to know the marriage details. Can you tell me what occupation is given for George and his father Edward? Is there an age for George or just of full age/over 21?
What age was Mary and what is her father's name and occupation?
Any address shown at the time they married? Who were the witnesses?
This information could assist in locating the couple pre marriage on the 1871 census and will hopefully give you more details to work with.

I think this is going to be a tough nut to crack. I am struggling to find anything for either George or Mary re census and birth records.
The occupation of boatman suggests a family that moved around the country therefore making it harder to pin them down. They may well have missed appearing on census records because of that.

I agree GG, I did find a son born, Georgie in 1872, not found any of them after that, but as you mentioned, boat people can be up and down the Grand union canal, think nearest to Paddington, my family way back were boat people, up and down the canal but mostly came home to Paddington to have the children baptised, 14 of them, just imagine all of those on a canal boat, plus goods , at the moment we have no idea where George and Mary were born

There is an 1898 marriage at St Mary’s Paddington of Caroline Walker, 24, father George Walker a boatman, deceased.

Just tried 45 North Wharf Road in the 1891 and 1901 census but no Walker family living there then.

I did find a Joseph Pearton with Sarah MMN King living Hillingdon, not so far from the canal basin I don't think but they didn't have a child Mary Ann and Joseph wasn't a boatman , 2 baptisms 1851 for Charlotte Jane and 1855 for Thomas William, So I am a little stuck with this family

Thanks for you help and reply’s.
Caroline is George and Mary’s Daughter and yes she married a Morris in Paddington, also boat people.
George is my great grandfather married to Annie Grantham another Boat Family.
But I cannot find any other trace so if anyone else has any ideas I would appreciate it 😊
Kindest regards, Michelle.

Hello and welcome, Michelle!
From the Islington Gazette 17 November 1892:
There is mention of a 40 yr old George Walker, boatman, of Medina-street, Kensal-road, Paddington being drunk and disorderly at Caledonian-road.
Might be worth looking for that street in the 1891 census?

One more from 04 April 1896 - West London Observer - London, London, England
A boatman, George Walker, was involved in a scuffle when the barge, Sarah, that he rented was being repossessed. The barge had been the property of his father, and George was renting it from the widow, but hadn't kept up payments.
So IF this is your George, this would narrow his death date down from April 1896 to Caroline's wedding date.

Hi I also have this line in my family I believe George’s brother is my great grandfather Edward Walker whose father was an Edward but I have no mother name for George and Edward, I was told that the family were boat people and their children could have been baptised wherever they happened to have been moored. My Edward does have his father with him on the 1891 census and the fathers place of birth is given as Hertford, but like you now hitting a brick wall
