Hi
Am I right in thinking Ancestry DNA ThruLines is just about finding common ancestors on family trees with people who are within your DNA match-list?
It's just that I've had Thru Lines common ancestors with people who are clearly not on my Ancestry DNA match-list.
Am I misunderstanding the concept of the tool?
Thanks in advance.

I've just checked my thru lines and yes they are proposing ancestors with 0 matches to DNA trees ....what does it mean ? Are they comparing trees from the site ?

Hi Brigidmac
Thanks for your reply.
I thought what made Thru Lines different from ordinary Ancestry green-leaf hints was that it is DNA-match-specific, but then I've just been thinking could it be that these zero-DNA matches in Thru Lines are below the 6cm threshold for appearing in our match lists .... therefore they are still DNA matches ..... ???

I might be misunderstanding it, but I thought that Thrulines was separate from DNA matches, and just suggested info from Trees where the names or other info matched?

Supposedly they are DNA linked.
See Ancestry’s definition

I've had another look
On my mum's tree there is a potential ancestor with 3 dna matches but 0 DNA trees so I suppose the matches are with people who have taken DNA but have closed trees so Ancestry can still propose the link

OK, I just read through that, and this paragraph stood out to me:
‘Because they're based on trees, ThruLines™ don't prove your specific connection to a DNA match. For example, if you have someone listed in your tree as a second cousin, and that person appears as a DNA match and in a ThruLine as your second cousin, they could still actually be a first cousin once removed, a half-first cousin, or a number of other relationships to you’.
