That is great news. I can’t wait to check rootschat on my PC later.
(All has been well on my iPad with Safari and I didn’t understand what the issue was until last night when I went on the PC.)
A Gold Star for a Trystan. ;D

I don't know what Trystan has done that seems to be making everyone ecstatic but its made absolutely no difference to me. Still getting the unsecure message on Chrome.
Sorry, I can't be doing with having to go through that rigmarole over and over again every time I want to navigate the site. I was sitting back and being patient after your last message that you were working on a fix but, whatever you've done, it aint working on Chrome. I'll try again in a few days.
Just noticed that even the Post Preview and Spellcheck buttons have all but faded away as well. or perhaps they're wearing a mask???? ;D

I don't really understand all this. Last week when I could not access with Firefox, but could with Edge, my son sorted it out, (he is an expert) but I believe he did it through my settings. Looking at the screen now (Firefox), it still has a blocked padlock and says it is not secure? My son and I decided not to worry about it, but I am puzzled.

Thanks Nell, have printed reply 8 ready to tackle when I return. :)

I’m on an iPad using Safari and for sometime (weeks) I have had the message Not Secure but I’ve ignored it. Yesterday I lost it briefly on the main page but it is back again today.
In very simple non technical terms could someone please explain to me how to get into the secure Roots Chat.
-
It may take several hours for everybody to see the 'padlock' and the more secure version on RootsChat. It can take up to two days.
It's all down to how how Internet Service Providers, and also one's own PC (or tablet etc) cache routing details to websites.
So, typically, say somebody connecting via a mobile network will see more things cached longer by their provider.
The other thing that can help too sometimes is rebooting one's computer.
So yes some of you will have no problems, and some still will for the time being.

Always the same. I go away for a few moments to do something really essential, like eating or sleeping. When I return, I find that THINGS have happened! I am not quite sure what these things are and as nothing seems different to me I might never find out. But rest assured that I am just as pleased as everybody else that they have happened. Carry on the good work everybody!
Oh what interesting times we live in!
Regards
Chas

Thanks for that info, Trystan. I will wait and see what happens next!
-
Many thanks, Trystan, for waving your magic wand. :D After several days of frustration good old RootsChat.com is now secure and I don't have to go through all that rigmarole each time I change a page. I'm on Windows 10 and Edge, by the way.
-
Thank you, I have now lost the Not Secure notice.
-
Thank you Tyrstan. I'm back to on Firefox.
rayard.

Well it is the padlock sign again for me!
Once again keep having to log in too.
Job for number one son! When he comes!
Viktoria.

Nice work Trystan. Performance doesn't seem to have taken a hit at all, so whatever approach you've taken has clearly been very successful. In fact, I reckon the site is even perkier than before.

Same as Gillg & Kiltpin. :)
My "things" yesterday included hours gardening as weather was fine and forecast for today was rain, then eating, tv, bed.
I wouldn't be able to cope with "internet of things"; I'd be anxious about it going wrong or being hacked.
-
Sorry to be a downer but mine was great this morning and now I'm back to error messages.

Thanks Nell, have printed reply 8 ready to tackle when I return. :)
Don't do that nanny jan. Now Trystan has updated the site there's no need to for anyone to change their browser settings (other than to revert their settings if they've already made that change).
Something to try is a 'force refresh' to try and update the certificate in your browser's cache. This isn't the normal refresh so you need to use a specific key combo for your given browser and operating system. The linked article has the details for various browsers and OSes.

I have just come back after a couple of hours and the site is secure (Firefox).

That's great - it can take the internet a bit of time to catch up with changes like this, so it's good to hear. :)

What just happened, were you fixing something, couldn't get RootsChat to load for a while, got timed out message.

A blip. Everyone did.
-
Yip, I got that blip :D Chrome was fine last night with the padlock, now I have the little circle with the "i" in it, saying not secure. Just waiting for Firefox to be secure.
Cheers
