Are there free credits for Scotlandspeople avalible or am I to late ?
Just want to get one copy of a marriage record.
-
Haven't seen any for quite some time now - sorry out of credits at moment :-\
Cheapest if £7-50 for 30 credits at moment.

That's cheaper than en English Marriage certificate! ;D
-
Not if you live in South Africa. And you are a pensioner, unfortunately.
The exchange rate kills us here!
Does anyone know if there are free credits for Findmypast, then? I had these free ones years ago to long to remember which year :)
-
To view and download a marriage record will cost 6 credits on SP
Copy of a marriage certificate will be about 15 GBP including postage
What marriage record are you looking for? Some kind person with spare credits may look it up for you.

Maybe they are thinking about those of us who have subscriptions to them and get fed up with them giving out freebies with no recompense to us ;D ;D
F M P does give free access sometimes.

As Klouman has said you won't get much information from the marriage on Scotland's People
The only other information on find my past is the father's name for Mary Colquhoun which is Adam
Colquhoun

Oh dear, was hoping it would at least give me an age for John Lamont and just maybe a fathers name.

I suppose it is to "good to be true" to expect the sites to be kind over the lock down. There are a few shops and businesses that have given people specials over this time. Even one of our Mall's has given us free parking in the pay parking area.

Thanks Rosie

We have had some free access to Ancestry & FindMyPast during lockdown through our County Library services in England

Nice of them! :)
-
I think it was happening in some other countries too

You really need to get the original; there is so much more than what Rosie gave you. A motherload of info on both Lamont and Colquhoun.
If its not worth the price so be it.

John Lamont, shipmaster in Port Glasgow and Mary Colquhoun, daughter to the deceased Adam Colquhoun, late writer (??hard to read) in Dumbarton were booked in order to proclamation for marriage - 22 September 1775
This was a proclamation - they actually married 4 days later on 26/9/1775 which shows simply the usual details for the time so more information was in the proclamation.

That was very kind of you Annette :)

Thanks so much Annette, that helps, I now have something to go on. Now that explains why they were living at Port Glasgow. So John was a ship master.
My goodness ship masters are popping out of the wood work! :D That means I have them on both sides of the family.
Mary Colquhoun's father Adam was either a Sheriff substitute or local judge of the county Dumbarton. And he was the keeper of the register of sessions of the shire. He had a famous son by the name of Patrick Colquhoun who was lord provost and chief magistrate for the city Glasgow. He was very involved in the police force. He moved to Westminister London were he established the marine police.
