Trying to track down anthing about a Mrs K Hall.
She was during WW11 living in Witney Oxfordshire UK, maybe some connection to UK RAF ?
I know she lived in Canada & was in some way connected to my late Mother
She was known as "Kath" Hall. Maybe Kathleen/Katherine ? Probably born abt 1915/20 ?
She had two daughters Pat & Rowena born about 1940/1950,s
Her address was PO Box RR3 Bancroft Ontario
Any assistance much appreciated

1968 Voters' List shows a Kathleen & Murray Hall, farmers, living at RR #1, Bancroft. In the 1972 list, there is a Sharon Hall listed in the home, perhaps another daughter.
-
Thank Eileen, most kind That may help as I have never been able to discover the name of her husband. The mother & her 1 or 2 daughters visited my late mother in Sussex about late 50,/60s
There may also have been a connection to Winnipeg from my distant memory
I can only assume Kathleen may have been related some how or maybe just a friend from WW11 times when my parents were in Oxfordshire . On with the search
Regards, Chris

So, not the right K. Hall given the names of her children on the gravestone.
-

More researching ...........

Thanks Sandra. It could drive you crazy...
Almost certain had 2 daughters, Pat guessing Patricia & Rowena Probably born around 1940/1945
The only info I have is the details in my mothers address book
Just how my mother knew Kath is unknown. She never mentioned Canada other than about Kath
Do remember taking about Winnipeg & mention of draglines too
It is all out there somewhere......
Thanks Chris

Found a Mrs. Kathaleen Hall at RR #3 Bancroft (electoral district of Hastings-Frontenac) in the 1963 Voters' Lists. She is listed with her husband Robert, a miner. Quite a bit of uranium mining in the area at the time but closed up in 1964. Reopened again in 1975 for a few years. Robert & Kathleen are there are in the 1974 list which is the latest that I can search. Robert is shown as retired by this point.
-
Thanks Eileen that sounds a bit more promising as my Mum's book gives Bancroft Box RR3
Mining makes sense too, as distinctly remember the mention of draglines
Odd how there things stick in your mind
So kind, many thanks

I was able to browse through the 1979 lists, and found Kathleen Hall listed on her own at the same RR#3 Bancroft address so likely Robert had passed away by then.
-
Eileen, you have been so helpful Certainly seems it is the correct folks
Wondered if there is anything about their burials details in Canada
Going to see if can discover them in the UK
Many thanks Chris

Has a very quick look thru these links but didn't see anything. Might be worth another try when you have a minute. ???

Hi Sandra. checked all possible cemetery burials for Robert & Kathleen no success
Any chance of looking up for a potential marriage, guess would be around 1939 +/- 5 years
Mainly want to identify Kathleen's maiden name
Thanks,Chris
-
Sadly Canada has very strict privacy laws, there is no BMD index for the time frame you require. :-\
Sandra
-
Marriages in Ontario are available up to 1938 and they don't show up there. If she was in England during WWII, would she not perhaps have married there?
-
Thanks Sandra. Will have a look fingers crossed Just hoping she was from UK of course

Chris:
Most of the answers to your questions are here:
http://muddle-1.one-name.net/buxted/190cs.htm
I am familiar with land records in Ontario and found Robert A. Hall purchasing a lot in Faraday Township, Hastings County in 1958. In April 1974 he and his wife sold the land which is actually a cottage/residential lot at the northeast end of Paudash Lake. But in April 1979, Kathleen Matilda Hall made a declaration as Executrix of the Last Will and Testament of Robert ABERDEEN Hall.
The name Robert Aberdeen Hall appears in Library and Archives Canada as a British Home Child. He was sent to Canada in September 1923 and his birthdate was given as 05.12.1911. Sent to live with Col. Stanley D. Johnston, a farmer, in Peterborough, Ontario. R7, Lot 23, Concession 8. These children were part of the Dr. Barnardo Homes.
If you believe that the family were Protestant, then on the very next lot adjoining their's at Paudash Lake is St. Mark's United Church and Cemetery. Perhaps they are buried there and I will see if I can find a listing of burials for you.
-
Great find! Can I ask how you found the land records so quickly?
-
Not easy. The Ontario Land Registry system is online (Onland) where you can see all of the Land Abstract pages in the "Historical" land books. I narrowed down the address to one or two concessions and browsed page by page until I found Robert A. Hall. Again- it takes time. The FHL has the same books online at FamilySearch but you have to search the catalogue under the relevant place and then land records. But they do have the same page images.
-
Good to know for future reference. Thanks.
-
Lovely story but it does say Robert had one son - no mention of the two girls P & R born in the 1940/50's ? Kath did live in Eastbourne Sussex but the original post says she was in Witney Oxford during WW2.
By the time Kathleen Matilda Thorpe married Robert Aberdeen Hall she was 46 years old ?
Not sure this one is sorted yet?

There is a marriage of Robert Aberdeen Hall born 1912 Newcastle married 3 April 1937 Peterborough Ontario. Bachelor. Spouse Helen Margaret Hamlin.
Helen Margaret Hamlin was born 1916 Peterborough Ontario (referred to Margaret Hamlin on the 1921 census)
There is an ancestry tree for the couple but no further info other than the marriage.
There is a Canada Ocean Arrivals Form (30A) for Robert Aberdeen Hall of North Shields departed Southampton 21 September 1923 on the Minnedosa. Robert aged 11 years.
UK outbound passenger list shows Dr Barnardo Homes 18 - 20 Stepney Causeway London
Going to Quebec to do farming.

It is one and the same family. Muddle is the connection. I will wait until facellia jumps back in here.
-
The surname Muddle has never been mentioned?
Where do the two girls P and R come in ?
Sandra
-
The original poster named them as children of Kathleen in her original post.
-
The 1939 Register has Kathleen living with her brother in Eastbourne. Perhaps it was after this time, she was posted to Oxford?
-
The original poster named them as children of Kathleen in her original post.
There are no children mentioned for Robert and Kathleen in the account of the Muddle family ???
Sandra
-
I know, and that's where the confusion lies. Makes me wonder if she might have married once before coming to Canada and marrying Robert in 1959. Have to wait to see what else the poster knows.
-
The two daughters had to be either Robert's with his first wife OR Kathleen with a first husband back in England. Kathleen's parents were Kate Muddle and Charles Thorpe. facellia will have to correct/verify.
-
It is a lovely story and great research but it seemed strange that the Muddle account doesn't mention the two girls, when the one above of brother Frank does mention his children. Verification of those two girls would be the icing on the cake.
According to the 1939 register then Kathleen was single and not married.
Doesn't seem to be a record of the two girls in the UK. If they exist they are hopefully still alive.
The Muddle account refers to Robert having one son.
