Thank you every one for your help. :-*
So it looks like Jane changed her name to Lucy J. HILL
Found on the 1871 census and the 1881 census. :)
Hester is Esther found on the 1871 census.
Wonder what happened to Simon Peter HILL ???
-
Ok just found Hester/Esther HILL.
There is a marriage 8 JAN 1883 St Marys Lambeth for an Esther BEDFORD nee HILL aged 34 Widow to John GROGEN. Her father is George HILL. Witness to the marriage is Deborah HILL. Deborah HILL is her niece, only child of Rowland HILL.
-
There's a marriage on 14 May 1876 at Stanhope Street Methodist Chapel, George Henry Bedford, 29, organ builder, 29 Grafton Terrace, and Esther Hill, 25. No other information on the Methodist register.
-
Thanks Shaun.
Found Probate for George Henry BEDFORD who died 4 Sept 1879.
But now having trouble finding Esther/Hester GROGEN. ???
-
Simon/Peter
Have you tried just putting his surname into the 1871, place of birth and approx. date, and check from there, I haven't found him yet, nuisance with alternative name

There is a marriage 8 JAN 1883 St Marys Lambeth for an Esther BEDFORD nee HILL aged 34 Widow to John GROGEN.
That John Grogen was a horse keeper.
There's a John Grogan, 23, a horse keeper, lodging in Acorn Place, Peckham in the 1881 census, born Ireland.
-
Thanks LM I have tried but im finding nothing.
Thanks Shaun I did see that 1881 census, for John GROGEN Horse keeper born Ireland but nothing after that for him or Esther. ::)
Also Esther has a son with on the 1881 census. Charles BEDFORD born ? Middlesex London.
Cannot make out the age but index shows aged 9 ba 1872. Esther didn't marry George Henry BEDFORD until 1876 so maybe not her son but perhaps her stepson ???
-
Strange, so far can't find a death for him either, I have come to the conclusion some never want to be found, got 2 of my own like that

Simon Peter HILL
There's a possible marriage in Bedminster in 1862. Peter Hill, 25, father George, married Ann Thomas.

In the 1870 US census there's a Peter (35) and Ann Hill (30), both from England, in the township of Grand Blanc, Genesee County, Michigan. He's a farmer.
Just possibilities!
-
Thanks Shaun.
I will check that out that Peter HILL.
I found a marriage certificate on a tree for Charles BEDFORD aged 29 to Kathleen JONES on the 28 Nov 1900 Registry Office, Oamaru, New Zealand. Certificate shows his father as George BEDSON Organ Builder and mother Esther GORGAN formerly BEDFORD Maiden name HILL.
So definitely the correct Charles BEDFORD.
But still no luck with what happened to Esther/Hester.

There are quite a few references to Charles Bedford in the NZ papers. Here are a couple

There is this death for a Peter James Hill 22/11/1899
Detroit Wayne Michigan
Birth Year 1837 England
Father George Hill
Mother --Markey
Probate record mentions 2 sisters residing in London

Rosie
-
It could be him.
Fathers name correct.
Mothers maiden name MARKEY close to MEAKER
Sisters in London Phebe Yes, Jennie could be Jane/Lucy.
Checked the marriage to Ann THOMAS. No other info on there that helps.
I have checked for a Peter HILL ba 1834/37 with father George on the 1851 and 1861 census and the only one that comes up is the one in High Ham.
-
Yes thought the mothers name could be mistaken for Meaker ;D this family don't make it easy with all the name changes ???..Still looking for the wife Ann Hill there does not seem to be any family for this couple
