Title: Piercey family St Pancras? 1700s
Post by: petmas on Saturday 01 August 20 09:29 BST (UK)
Sarah Piercey was baptised at Old Church St Pancras 29 June 1795, her parents are shown as William & Elizabeth. Can't find a fit for them on 1841 but not surprised as they would be in their 70s. Any trace of them earlier? Ideally pre Sarah.  Thanks Pete

The surname on the baptism is Peircy. Was she Piercey in later life?

You've got me wondering now, only other reference I have is her marriage to Joseph Coster St James Padington 19/11/1815

A William 'Pearcey' married an Elizabeth Palmer at St Mary's, Lambeth on 7th April 1785 - I wonder if that might be them?

(Just to add to the confusion with the surname!!)

The Curate was named Pearce - so maybe that is why he spelt the William's surname that way.

Sarah Peircy   Born  June 10   Baptism   29 Jun 1795   St Pancras Old Church, Camden, Parents William,Elizabeth

Sarah seems to be the only child?

There are a number of burials for William & Elizabeth pre 1812, none in St Pancras and no age or detail. There are also a few burials post 1813 of those born before 1780, none in St Pancras.

Regarding the marriage to Joseph Coster Sarah is noted as Piercey.

If that is the Sarah Piercey who married Robert Coster in November 1815, she would have been under 21 and therefore a minor. It's not mentioned on the marriage register.

There are two marriages that might be of interest.

Sarah Piercy       19 Nov 1821   St George Hanover Square   John Millward
Witnesses Sarah Egan & John Coole? All 4 signed.

Sarah Piercy,        31 Aug 1823   St Andrew Holborn   William Bradley
Witnesses  Richard & Elizabeth Piercy all four signed.

The marriage to Joseph Coster 1815 is correct, don't have a note of it but somewhere I have seen that she was a minor. Problem is she died late 1841 so little census info and Joseph died in 1849 of cholera so same for him
