Title: Bebington cemetery look up request
Post by: Andrew Hollaway on Sunday 09 August 20 09:31 BST (UK)
Hi, hoping that someone can help me please?

My great grandfather (Alfred Ernest Jones) bought plot 1031 in section I of Bebington cemetery in 1910.

I believe that 4 people were buried in this plot:

Alfred Ernest Jones
Ada Jones (his first wife).
Grace Jones (his second wife)
May Jones (child with Ada who died at 10 weeks old).

I am researching my family history and have hit a brick wall with Ada.  She must have died between 1911 (she was on the census record from that year) and 1913 (when Alfred remarried, his marriage certificate shows he was a widower).  But I cannot find a death record for Ada so am hoping the cemetery may help with a date of death.

I suspect that there won't be a grave stone as it would have cost too much.

Can anyone help please? Are the cemetery records available anywhere?

Welcome.
Firstly try to find the death reg.

How old was Ada in 1911? There's no clue in your post.

Is this appropriate JONES, ADA       45
GRO Reference: 1912  D Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 175?

Could the couple have just parted?

My gt.grandma marrried (husband 3) in 1907, declares herself to be a widow on 1911 census........husband states he is a bachelor when he gets married in 1917!

Wow, thank you everyone for your responses, very kind.

The Ada on the 1911 census record that nanny jan found is the right one, she was born Ada Wiles on 31 July 1884.

I did wonder if they had separated as I could find no death records at all for her.  I got a copy of her birth certificate in case there was a middle name to help the search but there wasn't.

I don't have access to familysearch as I don't have a church record number to register (am I doing something wrong?) - thank you jonw65 for searching on there for me.  No record of Ada there either?  I'm assuming that if she had died whilst they were married then she would be in that plot.  But if no record then its even more mysterious!

Family Search - don't have to be a church member , just sign up for a (free ) account to be able to search and view records.

Report on Alfred's funeral which may be of interest
Liverpool Echo 10 Aug 1925 page 7 col 2

Pathetic Scene at Wirral Funeral
Dead Huntsman's Two Little Daughters
The late Mr Alfred Jones, who was
hunstman to the Royal Rock Beagles for
seventeen years, and who died under tragic
circumstances on Wednesday, as already
reported, was buried at Bebington Cemetery
this afternoon.
Messrs. C.H, Hind (hon. secretary),
and H Todd, S. E. Smythe, and J. N.
Evans, members of the Hunt, were present.
Mr Gray Cowie, master of the
Chester Beagles, was also in attendance.

Two pathetic little figures were the
huntsman's little daughters, Betty and
Peggy, aged eight and six years, who
accompanied their mother, and who were
practically as well known to the hounds as
their father. The Rev. F.M. Cundy
conducted the service.
Mr. Jones was most popular with all
members of the hunt, his untimely death
creating intense sorrow amongst the
members of Cheshire sporting circles.
